Muthmir could clearly be a blot on the handicap so I have had to save on him at just over 7/1 but the one I really like is Seeking Magic @ 20/1 for the excellent Clive Cox- won the consolation race last year (was 3rd the year before) and loves running downhill (just pipped in Epsom Dash). Must have been aimed at this all year.

Don't won't to rain on your parade but the weather forecast isn't the best. Muthmir has to be on your thoughts in this race as he travelled powerfully last weekend and won easily. If the forecast rain arrives I can see him not running. If the rain doesn't then even with maybe not the ideal draw he won't be far away but I've liked Intrinsic for this and he still has to be a big player.
Report sintonian July 31, 2014 5:07 PM BST
yep, not going to look at this race until tomorrow evening/Sat morning when we'll know more about the weather. Ninjago interests me at the mo but not back him yet.
Report slowerthanjohn July 31, 2014 7:25 PM BST
Well I backed Ninjago in this race last year and in the Wokingham but I'm outWinkso he'll hack up. Richard Hughes sticks with Intrinsic.

Rex Imperator last years winner  has chances of doing it again if he gets some  rain , Haggis tried to step him up into group company early in the season  but he is probably a little too  ground dependent  for hot sprints , does need it to  rain  as only acts well on good or softer GL .
Report mac99 July 31, 2014 9:29 PM BST
Maybe ground on the easy side of good  is what he wants , plenty of dangers including the stronly mentioned Ninjago who ran so well in the race last year when as a three year old .

At a price I think Ruywaiyan is interesting, ran a very good race in the Victoria Cup travelled strongly and won his race on the far side. Then ran over 7f at Goodwood and looked all over the winner till seeming not to get home? Then tried 6f for the first time in his career in the Chipchase where he finished second, don't really like condition race form for handicaps but I'm certain this horse will be suited by a strongly run 6f. The negative is the 8lb rise for his second in that race. Still would have got into this race off his old mark but I think he is improving and worse outsiders.

Another to consider if the forecast showers materialise is Ballesteros. His first run this season was very promising. I have taken a chance at 66/1. Better than fairly treated on his best form as is the Hannon gelding Expect. And it would be no surprise if the old warrior Borderlescott made the frame at a big price.
A great race in prospect.
Report sintonian July 31, 2014 10:00 PM BST
yeah that's a shame John. He has gone up a stone for his last two placed efforts. He could be one for the Ayr Gold Cup with a 5lb claimer aboard. Graham Lee rides this time who won the race a couple of years back on Hawkeyethenoo but you have to wonder if his mark has been blown.
Report sintonian July 31, 2014 10:02 PM BST
Started the season on turf rated 79, now 103! With a bit better placing he could have won a big race.
Report slowerthanjohn July 31, 2014 10:43 PM BST
No he's not been plotted up for this! and like you say the Ayr Gold Cup could be his race but I already like something else for thatWink I think they are still learning about him but like you say his mark may have been blown.

Like o/p on Seeking Magic at 25s hoping for not too much rain.
Report sintonian August 1, 2014 9:23 AM BST
Looks loads of it forecast from Friday night, early Saturday morning.
Report sintonian August 1, 2014 4:30 PM BST
Had a speculative bet on Mar Mar for the moment. She gets in off bottom weight and is drawn with all the pace. She is probably not in the best of form but handles any ground and wasn't far behind Music Master earlier in the season. Oisin Murphy rides.40/1 with 5 places.
Report unclepuncle August 1, 2014 6:44 PM BST
With my other two drawn very low and very high I've played safe and backed something drawn in the middle as well - Hallelujah @ 40/1.

GL all.
Report mac99 August 2, 2014 9:13 AM BST
Before winning last year Rex  imperator had run down  the field on at least two occasions , J O'brien is not over for a family picnic , or at least i  don't think he is Silly  rain is heading  to goodwood  but will not ( i am assured)  fall on the stands side Laugh where Rex is drawn , a golden highway beckons , go no my Son.
Report unclepuncle August 2, 2014 10:32 AM BST
Looks like the rain has completely missed Goodwood.Happy
Report mac99 August 2, 2014 11:43 AM BST
No rain , where is the rain ? well the the other Haggis runner  benefits  from that , add that one to my bets , GL all .
Report Figgis August 2, 2014 3:47 PM BST
Laying the fav. Ridiculous price for me, think his last win was well overrated, I didn't rate it anything special.
Report brigust1 August 2, 2014 4:07 PM BST
Good call Fig. Not a race I bet in but he did seem short as you said.
Report mac99 August 2, 2014 4:09 PM BST
brave to lay the fav , well done
Report FELTFAIR August 2, 2014 4:18 PM BST
I backed Intrinsic. The clock rarely lies.GrinI know I`m an aftertiming son of a bitch but been to a wedding and just got back in time to see the race.

wd Fig.

Awful Feltfair.
Report roadrunner46 August 2, 2014 10:55 PM BST
INTRINSIC has an exceptional pedigree and in its last race, flew home to nab ashpan sam in the last furlong, must of made up 10 lengths.
Report FELTFAIR August 3, 2014 11:37 AM BST
Sorry Sintonian I only lay odds on.
Report slowerthanjohn August 3, 2014 3:23 PM BST
I backed Intrinsic at 12s ante post and then again at 7s but saved on Muthmir! Wish I'd heard that Hughes said he was a good thing! Still a good day and roll on the Great St WilfriedWinkthink I may have one for thatWhoops
Report sintonian August 3, 2014 3:50 PM BST

Slowerthanjohn. I wouldn't base that much on what hughesie says. He said Shifting Power was his ride of the week on Friday and I quote 'I'll pack up and go home if he doesn't win'!
Report sintonian August 4, 2014 8:33 AM BST
Bleeding hell I amazed he said that. Trainer's quotes on their website said he needed a confidence booster! Which is not really the thing you say if your horse is in top form.
Report Can't Catch Me August 6, 2014 5:05 PM BST
Really Sint? That is surprising. Although Im not sure young Richard tells everything like it is either!
Report slowerthanjohn August 7, 2014 6:53 PM BST
Intrinsic only went up 6lb which I think is very fair, surely on 101 you'd go for the Ayr Gold Cup? Well if he was mine that's where he'd be going, there is always next season for Group races and I think he's well capable of winning off that mark.

As for Hughes first of all no one gets it right all the time and secondly I'm sure some of the owners don't allow him to say what he wants. If I was an owner I wouldn't it broadcast how well fancied my horse was, well not till I'd at least lumped onWink
