And no, before you ask he has not cost me money recently, I have just been watching him closely over the last month and think he has got even worse. We all know that 99/100 he over does the hold-up tactics, but he bounced out in front on a 2yo yesterday (Songye) and was so scared that he was in front he put the breaks on and wrecked his chance.
My guess is that he will be sacked from the Qatar job before the summer is out. Ive started making a profit laying him when he's on a fancied horse. Perhaps I should have kept that to myself.....damn!
At one time I had a bit of luck with Spencer on Purple Moon, Formal Decree in big handicaps but can't defend him. I think either he's lost it or just no confidence?? His ride on Angel Gabriel in the Chester Cup was awful!!! Forget the draw, he went from last to first in about a furlong and a half, never giving up the outside to anyone! If you had swapped the jockeys on that day then the result would have been reversed. Saturday went to show Angel Gabriel was the best horse and no I didn't back him in the Chester Cup but did Saturday because of the ride Spencer gave him it proved to me he must be a pretty decent horse.
A horse I did back at Royal Ascot with Spencer on was Horsted Keynes I bet Roger Varian wished he wasn't! Gave the horse far too much to do! I understand holding horses but why a long way last? You can give weight but not a start. John Magnier even had to get rid of hime despite there being some relation between them? can't recall, maybe godson?
He made me laugh on Saturday at Windsor on Gamesome he was sitting motionless looking round for dangers no I didn't back him! One time if Spencer was up I'd look at it as a positive but no more!

What did you make of his ride in the Phoenix Stakes yesterday? I missed the race but some folks said it wasn't great. If so, that is the second time he has c0cked up on that horse. A shocker in the Coventry.

Jamie Spencer, Qatar Racing’s retained jockey, will retire from race riding at the end of this season to take on a new full-time role within the Qatar Racing management team.
From 2015, Spencer will be an integral part of the operation working closely with Sheikh Fahad and David Redvers, providing feedback and advice regarding horses owned by Qatar Racing and Pearl Bloodstock. Currently the combined operations have around 250 horses in training worldwide, the majority of which are based in Britain, Ireland and France.
Spencer, 34, will continue to ride for Qatar Racing for the remainder of the year before embarking on his new career in January 2015.
Jamie Spencer said: "This is a fantastic opportunity and if I have learned anything in my riding career it is that you should take such opportunities when they come along.
"As much as I love race riding, it is not something I want to do for the rest of my life and while I am not necessarily ready to retire now, I feel at a stage when I am ready for a change. I really enjoy being part of the Qatar Racing team, working with Sheikh Fahad, David [Redvers] and everyone in the team, and so the opportunity to continue that and at the same time start the next chapter in my career appealed to me.
"This has been a big decision and not one I have taken lightly. My priority is my family, and thinking of them and their future has played a key part in my decision. I feel I still have a lot to give to racing, and not just as a jockey.
“I would like to thank all the owners and trainers who have supported me throughout my career. I will always be grateful to them for the success I have had and the friendships built along the way.”
Sheikh Fahad said: “I am delighted that Jamie will remain part of the team in his new role. I very much enjoy working with him and I am sure he will continue to be a great asset to Qatar Racing.”
David Redvers, Racing and Bloodstock Manager to Qatar Racing, said: "Ever since we signed up Jamie he has impressed us with his commitment and contribution. He has been an invaluable team player and this new role will enable him to build on that. I am delighted that we will continue to benefit from his insight, enthusiasm and invaluable experience.
"Jamie will continue to ride for Qatar Racing for the rest of the year. With regard to riding arrangements for 2015, we hope to be in a position to clarify the plans shortly."

To all those who defended him even the man himself knows he's finished Spencer was a decent jockey at one time but no more and he's done the right thing. Good luck to him in his new career.

Has Spencer been interviewed on ATR/RUK/CH4 since this decision?
I haven't seen him state his version of events but I'm not glued to the TV all day, every day - I'd like to see for myself and read between the lines.
FWIW, I'm a Spencer basher (have been for well over a decade) and so it's very rare I back one of his mounts because you know what you're gonna get. The last one I did was Queen Catrine at Royal Ascot (short-headed at 20/1) which was anchored in rear and unsurprisingly flew home...so close to being a superb ride - I see that as being MY fault for taking the bait but sometimes when you fancy a horse at a big price (in a relatively small bet) it's hard to resist the value
