Report BJG January 14, 2014 12:10 PM GMT
Tony Martin will decide next week whether Quick Jack will take his chance in the ****.com Hurdle at Leopardstown on January 25.

The John Breslin-owned five-year-old improved massively on the Flat in the summer and is carrying on in a similar vein over hurdles, turning a Cheltenham handicap at the Paddy Power meeting into a procession under Ruby Walsh.

He currently heads the ante-post market for the Leopardstown race but also holds an entry in the Betfair Hurdle at Newbury.

"We'll give him a few bits this week and see how he is. Leopardstown is an option for him and we'll make up our minds as to whether he'll run sometime next week," said Martin.

Willie Mullins has seven possibles among 38 entries for the race, in which the sponsors offer a 100,000 euros bonus to connections of any horse which can follow up at the Cheltenham Festival.

"It is a valuable race and we have a good few in it. We'll know a bit more next week but Marito and Blood Cotil are possible runners," said

Mullins.

"There are a few in the race with nice weights and we'll decide over the next few days or so, but I would imagine that we'll have more than one runner."

Captain Cee Bee has top weight but while his participation is not certain, Eddie Harty will be represented by Princeton Plains.

"He (Captain Cee Bee) is also in the BHP Insurance Irish Champion Hurdle the following day and we'll decide next week as to which race he'll go for. Princeton Plains is our other runner in the ****.com Hurdle and the plan is that he'll run," said Harty.

The Charles Byrnes-trained Sea Light is improving at a rate of knots but the handler does not want heavy ground for his runner.

He said: "The plan is that he'll run, but I would be a bit concerned about heavy ground for him. He seems to be in good form and if he gets in, he'll run."

Gordon Elliott is likely to have two runners with Rocky Wednesday and Festival winner Flaxen Flare.

"Rocky Wednesday is hard to predict but he did it well the last day and he will definitely run. He was second in the race last year off a 13lb lower mark, but he seems to be in good form," said Elliott.

"Flaxen Flare won the Fred Winter for us last year and has since been placed in a Galway Hurdle. He has been a great servant and while he will have plenty of weight, he will run and he seems to handle most types of ground."

**** have announced a relaxation in their ante-post rules on the race and will return stakes on any non-runners.

Cheers for that BJG.

At first glance, I might be interested in The Game Changer @ 16's, potentially progressive, met some good horses last time, and on a featherweight.

With you there Fab, 25/1 with Laddies but Spoils are NRNB. The horse he beat a couple of runs back, Gilgamboa, is also interesting.

Report dj876 January 20, 2014 6:41 PM GMT
Any updates on whether he is a certain runner (or as confident as we can be with Martin)??
Interesting to see who will end up riding? Paul Carberry maybe?(presume Ruby and Cooper won't be available)
Report BJG January 20, 2014 7:44 PM GMT
He said no decision between here and betfair yet - would be v confident he'll run here tho off a much lower mark(17lbs lower than eng mark he has been given in betfair!) and is now guaranteed to get a run in this

Always used to be one of my favourite and most successful punting races.

Obviously Quick Jack could be thrown in but I'd get no pleasure backing such an obvious and short priced horse so happy to leave him and if he romps home so be it.

At the prices I quite like Dysios and so went to oddschecker and found he was a general 20/1 chance but the race sponsors were going 25's. Went to their website and logged in, deposited £20 and placed it win only on Dysios @ 25/1 - got told I could only have £4.95 on - what a bloody joke.LaughLaugh

Might throw a few quid on Princeton Plains as well at huge odds on here.
