When o when will I learn not to back mullins ante post. Everthying seemed  right for marito so I waded in at 14s. Just finished a hard days graft and checked the decs for the pad power NO MARITO !.No one else to blame but myself. Everytime I fall for it.

think you've asked and answered your own question tony, except you should have worded mullins with IRISH. hardly bother with ante-post nowadays and have heard to much crap re irish trainers stating that there horses are comming over for races and yet come final decs day.......not declared. forget it in future mate, waste of time.

The Oirish take out merchants should stick to their own side of the sea when they want to act like what has become standard for them. They always try and complicate very simplistic things because people tell Oirish jokes. There is nothing smart about entering numerous horses in races, and then pulling them out. It's horse racing, not net coding.

I think we've all been burnt in the past by this stable re ante-post races. But the fact is punters need to wise up a little bit as his stable, and the likes of Ballydoyle, have many, many top class race horses and it only makes sense to have them entered in all the top races. Only they will know if they are intended runners or not and we will not at final decs.

*we will not find out until final decs.

yep, thats the way it is,and really we should all know that by now, especially with mullins.

I always back ante post if I think a price is good and with nrfb I do it a lot more now, but so far have not backed a mullins horse.

well that's a lie, sorry, forgot about Boston Bob,Annie Power and Un de sceaux.Laugh

I do have them at nice odds though and all are nrfb.BB will probably only have the Gold Cup and the other 2 I think will either be in the Churdle or not go at all.

I am Irish but I have to agree with you guys. Irish trainers make it seriously difficult to back their horses antepost. They also like to foul around with the horses handicap mark a lot more.

Whereas british trainers and there owners tend to like a good day out at the races and run there horses on merit. The only time you should back irish horses antepost in my view is for the festival. I backed Back in focus for the 4 miler when he was at 10/1 and mullins was still talking up the RSA for him. It was blatantly obvious he was just getting up on the line in 3 mile bogfests in Ireland. 3 miles on good to soft at cheltenham was just a no go. Again boston bob for the jewson or the rsa punters get messed around.

I backed Marito but that's life! Graeme83 when you start paying the training and entry fees for the horses feel free to do what you wantWink

I'm another who got stung but knew there was a sizable chance he wouldn't run. I generally tend to avoid backing Irish horses ante post for English races with the exception of the festival.

Ante post betting is fraught with danger even if it's a trainer intention to run so many things can go wrong! I backed Marito at 14s because I thought he had an obvious chance and the race may cut up, as it has. It's really the greed factor and I don't mind admitting! For every good ante post bet you have the bads one outweigh them.

Well its all about the price and not laying out too much for me.
I never back shorter than double figures and more often than not a lot lot bigger, and if I do go a bit heavier I have to have nrnb or at least nrfb,as is available very early on.
Works fine for me,and would not even contemplate not playing antepost.
Every bet ive had so far- apart from a few bets on here at huge odds-has been nrfb.

All part of the game - we know if they do line up they'll have o/s claims at a price.

Prince de Beauchene at 25s Hennessey (short as 14s) - likely n/r i know but reasons to bet it and a huge price if runs.

yer can also get big prices early on that end up a darn sight shorter on the day,of course they may not run but then you get a free bet on something else on the day if nrfb.

I enjoy having a good look at all the markets early doors and trying to find big priced horses that I think are too big and could shorten a lot,big part of the whole Cheltenham thing for me...love it.

With Mullins and most of the Irish you know to wait until final decs.

I'm more peed off with Tom George for not running the certainty that would have been Module.Cry

Wasn't Willie Mullins talking about coming over here and having a crack at more British races this season?

Talks half a yard of meaning into 30 feet of noise that bloke.

Great trainer and all but if him and Jonjo O'Neil ever got into the same room the world would implode into the vacuum they'd create when asked a straightforward question.

I learnt the lesson the hard way too

I don't do them any more until they are confirmed runners

The talk certainly was that Mullins woud be sending more over for the big Saturday meetings. He will have his reasons why Marito wasn't declared for the Paddy Power. Maybe the ground? This will be much faster ground than they are used to in Ireland at this time of the year, that's for sure. Anyway, at least he's consistent!Grin

it's become so consistent that I just dare not risk money on his runners unless it is nrnb

Buddeliea who do you get NRFB with? Most ante post isn't nrnb if it they adjust the prices accordingly!

Don't give a monkeys about the bookie, the offer suits me fine.
Non Runner-free bet on the horse of your choice on the day
Runner - you have bigger odds(normally) than on the day, on the horse of your choice.

No brainer for me.
