1.    2411P     Benefficient
2.    312U5     Big Fella Thanks
3 .   31244     Billie Magern
4 .   51155     Cape Tribulation
5.    2213-3     First Lieutenant
6.    111UB    Harry Topper
7.    2132     Long Run
8.    6/656    Master Of The Hall
9.    3P247     The Giant Bolster
10.  13114    Unioniste

Betting: 11-10 Long Run, 4-1 First Lieutenant, Unioniste, 8-1 Cape Tribulation, The Giant Bolster, 10-1 Benefficient, Harry Topper, 25-1 Big Fella Thanks, Wayward Prince, 33-1 Billie Magern, 50-1 Master of The Hall

Could be a decent contest though I'll be hugely surprised if First Lieutenant was to come over for it.

My first thought would be to lay Long Run at anything like 11/10 if they nearly all took part but it could cut up very badly so I'll wait and see.

First Lieutenant also entered at Down Royal, they're probably looking for the best ground.
Report boy wonder 07 October 28, 2013 4:29 PM GMT
the giant bolster is the horse who will be well in at the weights 2nd top rated he will only carry 11-0 as he never won last season
Report ThunderRoad October 28, 2013 4:48 PM GMT
Can't wait to see Harry Topper run this year - one of my favourite horses of last season. Unbelievably tough and genuine. Obviously has 20 pounds to find with a horse like Long Run, but will have improved, loves conditions and will keep galloping. 10/1 is a big each-way bet for me.
Report boy wonder 07 October 28, 2013 5:01 PM GMT
yes I like him and have him down as my hennessy winner if he runs a big race on Saturday it could ruin his handicap mark I hope he doesn't run
Report rogerthebutler October 28, 2013 6:00 PM GMT
I had HT as a Hennessey Horse too.

Suspect he may be out to put in a safe round after not completing on his two runs at the backend of last year.

Newbury has to be the plan doesn't it?
Report ThunderRoad October 28, 2013 6:44 PM GMT
The Hennessy was always my guess too, with the declarations out tomorrow, we might get a better idea.
Report Howdi October 28, 2013 6:46 PM GMT
Long Run v Unioniste for me.
Report judorick October 28, 2013 11:44 PM GMT
The Giant Bolster is going to be really well in at the weights even getting weight from the likes of Harry Topper. Five year olds have a terrible record so I can't have Unioniste who wants mud anyway.

8/1 ante post with three places even if the field cuts up? LoveLoveLove

Hope you held off backing TGB judo, he's not running after a slight setback, goes to Haydock for the Betfair instead.
Report boy wonder 07 October 29, 2013 10:37 AM GMT
I took 9's with betfred that's ante post for you bridgewater quoted he's in brilliant form at home but would be only 98% if he ran at wetherby why the hell was he declared then
Report unclepuncle October 29, 2013 4:30 PM GMT
Bad luck Judo & Boy Wonder.Cry

I had a feeling it would cut up badly which is why I held off playing on the race.
Report Giddy October 30, 2013 1:32 AM GMT
I like the look of Unioniste but am concerned about his age. Certainly won't be going in at 4/1. Can see him improving massively from last season and running a big race
Report ashleigh October 30, 2013 9:08 AM GMT
the giant bolster n/r,harry topper needs soft ground, if not will not run.
kim bailey,i've put him in the hennessy, but only grudgingly as i'm not sure it's the right race.

The ground will be good-to-soft bare minimum. Harry Topper will line up. Particularly after not being declared for the Hennessy.

Report sintonian October 30, 2013 2:20 PM GMT
Long Run has been beaten on his seasonal debuts the last two years, behind Kauto Star and Silviniaco. He should really beat these imo but plenty of people will look to take him so 5/4 does not appeal right now, he might be 11/8 + on Saturday.
Report custardcream64 October 30, 2013 4:56 PM GMT
I've never really warmed to Long Run and always try to take him on especially at short odds.
Looking at the betting at the moment i feel that win and place on Big Fella Thanks may be the way to go. Ground and trip won't be a problem and although he is 'quirky' i feel he is overpriced for this race. First time out maybe the time to catch him. Good luck cc.

He has been declared - sorry! Whoops

Gone for a little win/place on Wayward Prince . 2nd in the race last year and had a pipe opener over hurdles recently.
Report Millerracing67 November 2, 2013 1:19 PM GMT
Not my kind of bet (short price) but all the vibes are gd about Long Run being ready to roll 2day, if so, he should win this prize.
He is the class act of the race.

Really pleased to see HT get around safely and after a sketchy early few, he seemed to make a much better shape at the remaining fences, getting really low (which is a good thing) at a couple.

Hell of an engine and tries his heart out and whilst that wasn't a Gold Cup winning performance, it was about as good a reintroduction as you could expect.

Gotta be the Hennessy now over further (and on soft ground, please God).
Report JOCI Club November 2, 2013 5:46 PM GMT
Thought trainer ruled out the Hennessy on Racing UK after the race?

Long Run ran like a drain. Peculiar sort of race. Why change from tried and trusted route?
Report rogerthebutler November 2, 2013 8:59 PM GMT
Yeah - saw the thoughts of Kim Bailey on the Sporting Life website post race re the Hennessy. Thinks his jumping is too sketchy still for big field handicaps.

Fair enough, he sees the horse day in day out. I always just felt Newbury and soft ground would be ideal for him.
Report Howdi November 2, 2013 10:43 PM GMT
should he would have bolloxed his handicap mark for the henn after today
Report custardcream64 November 3, 2013 6:32 AM GMT
Wayward Prince paid a nice 14/1 place for me. Shame it couldn't land the win at 90/1 though!
Fair play to the winner , a real battler and very game horse.
Report boy wonder 07 November 3, 2013 10:18 AM GMT
I have had harry topper earmarked for the hennessy all summer and disappointed to hear before racing yesterday that kim bailey didn't think it would be the right race, I was at wetherby yesterday and find myself now agreeing with him.the hennessy is always run at a good pace and in a big field he may find himself further back than ideal early on due to his careful jumping witnessed yesterday. only 6 he is in very good hands and given his ground and small fields he can continue the upward curve if we get the ground at Cheltenham master oats got in 1995 he will be a danger to all
Report ReaseHeath November 3, 2013 10:58 AM GMT
Probably quite difficult to place HT now, agree with your point about Hennessy but looks to me like he might get run off his feet in Betfair or King George.

The long distance handicap at Paddy Power meeting and Welsh National were mooted as possible options by his trainer earlier in the week - not quite as daunting as the Hennessy but still big field handicaps.

Would like to see him jump better next time out but he's only 6 and has some engine, promising that there is so much obvious room for improvement.
Report boy wonder 07 November 3, 2013 11:33 AM GMT
yes exactly betfair or king George wouldn't suit. Talking through my pocket but the 9/1 I took about the giant bolster on Tuesday looks like one that got away considering he would have received 8lb from the winner
Report judorick November 3, 2013 11:39 AM GMT
I also backed The Giant Bolster ante post, cannot believe they didn't run! Owner said he was '98%' ready so they decided to wait. I don't know which races they think they will have a better chance in this season than this

Believe he would have carried 11 stone so would have been 6lb from HT but the principle is the same, would have a stiff task for HT to give him weight
Report boy wonder 07 November 3, 2013 4:34 PM GMT
correct judorick he wont have a better opportunity all season wont win a race in my opinion
Report shockster November 3, 2013 4:38 PM GMT
I can understand trainers waiting.  What I don't understand is them entering them on the Monday, paying the entry fee and then saying going to wait.  Unless the horse or the ground has gone wrong seems nuts to me.

Has a long way to go to be another Master Oats, who was one of my favourites and won me a decent bundle in the Gold Cup, on one of the rare ocasions I've backed the winner in that race.
Report rogerthebutler November 3, 2013 6:01 PM GMT
Well yes - but he was competing in the Ascot bumper two years ago yesterday, so he's ahead of schedule.

As I've backed him for the Gold Cup at huge odds, i'm obviously interested in what they do with HT now. The 3m 3f handicap chase on Paddy Power day might be of interest, if only to give him a feel of Cheltenham. He'd probably carry top weight but it's a smaller field than the Hennessy but the Betfair looks interesting too - connections weren't scared of Long Run yesterday and it would show them what they've got if he did turn up there.
Report boy wonder 07 November 3, 2013 6:02 PM GMT
yes your right joci but remember nobody thought of master oats as a gold cup winner still my biggest single win took 50/1 ew with Ladbrokes in the November everything went right bottomless ground on the day and superb ride from norman Williamson crazy to think it will be 19 years ago in march
Report festivalfanatic November 3, 2013 6:21 PM GMT
i don't think Harry Topper can win a Gold Cup as long as he has a hole in his a*se! He is a Sir Harry Lewis, who are as quirky as fook.
Report rogerthebutler November 3, 2013 7:03 PM GMT
Then you won't mind taking another tenner off me - 80/1 shall we say? Wink

After the first 3 fences I was thinking that this Harry Topper was going to dissappoint, sure he went out to 20s on here so I thought it was a tremendous performance.
Report Steamship November 3, 2013 10:48 PM GMT
I would not run him at Cheltenham until the Argento if all is still going to plan by January
