Cant see Dynaste going here, do they really want to run under a big weight in a tough race like this so close to the King George? Unlikely! Hadrians Approach for me off 146, improved with every race last year and still think there is more to come.

Interested in Invictus. Will his beating of Bobs Worth and Silviniaco Conti be a flash in the pan, or will he be a serious horse after the injury?

I like Harry Topper for this too but just noticed he's been given an entry for  Charlie Hall on Sat - if he runs and does well he might end up a bit higher in the handicap - and if he runs and does very well he might end up in the Betfair Chase and the King George!

I would be surprised if he ran in the Charlie hall if I have it right he would only be getting 2lb off long run whereas in a normal hcp he would get 19lb

yep, no idea - participation for quite a few of 'em will probably depend on whether LR runs or not.

I think it's difficult to have a bet here unless we know if Tidal Bay is running.  Weights will differ massively depending on TB's participation.

Well several ran well today, who are entered for the Hennessy. Tidal bay, Houblon DO, Merry king, Triolo Dalene, Roberto Goldback, Rolling Aces, Argocat until falling.  Shaping up nicely, but will Tidal Bay run?  Was anything said after the Hurdle win today?

Rocky Creek would be of interest on soft ground if aimed at the race.
2nd season nov ch is a plus for the race.

Any news on the likely participation of Lord Windermere?

The RSA to Hennessey obviously a well worn path and be interesting to see what weight allocated as Irish rating is 154 (I assume UK rating is same) which would mean giving 8lb to Hadrian's Wall for about 8 lengths.

A run for Hadrian's Wall would put me off as most winners of this are traditionally first time out this season, ex novices.

he seven-year-old crowned a fine novice campaign over fences with victory in the RSA Chase at the Cheltenham Festival in March and connections will be hoping he can return to Prestbury Park for next year's Gold Cup.

With conditions deemed unsuitable in Northern Ireland, he will now head straight for the Hennessy on November 30.

Profiles J H Culloty Lord Windermere (IRE)
Culloty told @pphorseracing: "Lord Windermere goes straight to the Hennessy.

"At Down Royal the ground is kind of yielding but first time out I would like to see more juice so I'm going to avoid it and go straight to Newbury.

"He's in brilliant form and I'd love to run, but I'm terrified of running the horse this year on a surface that has a bit of rain on it and the ground is firm underneath.

"If I run him later it's too soon to the Hennessy so he'll go straight there."

Reckon that performance highland lodge put up against standing ovation giving him lumps of weight looks even better now, 136 could be pretty lenient, HL is a bit of an in and out horse though so you'll be gambling on a going day, but he's right in the mix.

Yeah, probably too many in front of him for the Hennessy as judo says there, welsh national looks good as sint says, lavelle is always at pains to say how much this horse loves it like a bog too.
By:

surely will get revised mark though, through the Ovation form

The Standing Ovation form aside, The Worcester Novice chase at last years Hennessy meeting in which Highland Lodge was 3rd makes interesting reading a year on. The winner Harry Topper is now rated 153. 2nd Beneficient now rated 157, 4th Houblon des Obeaux now rated 154 and Hadrains Approach who looked like taking a hand in the finish until falling rated 146.My gut instinct is that the Welsh National would be a more realistic target as the Hennessy does tend to go to a horse destined for the top but havent been able to resist taking some 25's just in case the ground comes right.
Can the handicapper reassess the horse now the entries have been made? I thought that was why they had the penalty system. 136 or even a few more pounds would be fine. Emma Lavelle has said after Winacnton that Newbury is the next step - even flagged up the race as a likely target in an ATR stable tour from last December.
Best do a rain dance.

Judo - Where does Merry King fall down?  At last years Hennessy meeting over 2m7f Rolling Aces beat him 3/4l in a driving finish.  In the Hennessy this year Merry King will be a STONE better off.  I appreciate that you can't take every piece of form literally, but at the prices this improving 6 year old ticks plenty of boxes.  He might not have the class of a typical winner which is the downside, but he is improving.

lacks wins in the correct grade and distance for this, I did back him at both the Festival and last time at Ascot, I do like the horse

I don't really like horses in these high class races which are returning from a long injury lay-off, and the form of his last win cannot be taken as literal, but Invictus might be chucked in off 145.

Judorick - I really hate this ruling out by strict criteria business but each to his own. I mean you can rule a horse out for losing a nose and if he won a nose he satisfies the criteria - funny business.

Fair enough Judo appreciate your thoughts.  Have already had a small bet on him.  Invictus is thrown in IF he comes back and is priced accordingly.

I think the form of Invictus at Ascot is being over played myself, neither bobs worth (just had a wind op and had done little homework prior) or SC were anywhere near 100% that day and the 3rd horse Alfie Spinner that day was running off 126 on Saturday just gone, I think its mark is about right.

What I meant re Invictus was, even allowing for the fact that both Bobsworth & SC improved significantly afterwards for one reason or another, they are still rated 170+ and Invictus is 145. He only needs to have 8lb or so in hand to win this race. He could still prove to be vastly inferior to those two horses but win this race given he is only on 145. He is a bit boom or bust, back him win only or as a saver, maybe.
