Only 7 runners for the big G1 mile on Weds at Goodwood not great for ew players. It has to be Dawn Approach again for me, would not bet anything against him over 1mile atm. Only soft ground would put me off.
Agreed. Toronado got much closer to him last time, so there's an argument that he could improve past him next time, but not for me. While it was an improved showing from Toronado, I had Dawn Approach running 4lbs below his best. You could take the view that DA is slightly on the decline but I think it was just the way the race panned out, he ought to have had a better preparation for this and I'm counting on him being spot on. I also think that battle last time might've taken more out of Toronado than DA. The older horses don't look to have a hope unless the first 2 in the betting significantly under perform. He's a bit short to be of interest to me at the moment, but if he did touch 6/4 he'd be a bet.

Hoping for a bit more rain for Declaration of War....race should set up nicely with Reply and Leitor Mor going at it early...hoping JOB keeps him right on it....would like to see DOW being the first to strike for home and let DA and Toronado try to catch him.....

Not original, but am expecting same result as in the St James Palace. Close again, but pair clear.
Only concern would be if Manning had a Goodwood nightmare like he did on Lush Lashes the last time he came here in 2008. (Amazing that he has only ever had 5 rides at the track)

Lush lashes......what was funny with that is you could see the problem developing from a long way out. At worst it seemed that he just be locked in for a couple of strides but he had a total complete meltdown.....

Great race that lived up to the billing for a change.
Shame that Farhh and/or Intello weren't in opposition - we can but hope that they all meet for the QEII.

a cracker of a race. looks like a really good time as well and with 2 1/2 lengths back to DOW and a further 5l back to Trade Storm the form looks top class as well.

I backed Dawn Approach quite heavily but you have to admire the ride Hughes gave to Toronado, a real peach; delivered to perfection to get up without getting into a battle. Fascinating rivalry with these two hosses

Be interested to see what you time boys make of it but it is the only time faster than standard today. Will they race Farhh against Dawn approach? I would fancy the 3 year olds in any case as think they are both top class.

I have Toronado improving 1lb on his Ascot run, DA staying the same as at Ascot, DOW replicating his best figure. Just my opinion, but I don't think DA has been quite the same since the Guineas, he's still been putting up some very good performances but not brilliant ones. Some might say he was never that good anyway, but for me he was, in his latter 2yo races and the Guineas. Even so, there's still very little between the two horses, I wouldn't necessarily agree with the view that Toronado is on an upward curve, DA on a downward one, and that Toronado would automatically beat him in future. I remember DA's sire New Approach, and thinking that he was never quite as good after the Guineas, even in winning the Derby, but later that year he showed his true class when thrashing the Champion Stakes field. I wouldn't be surprised if DA was still capable of doing something like that in future.

The final furlong finishing times on turftrax show trade storm and gregorian finishing very slowly which is often what happens in strongly run races for lesser horses racing against better horses and they paid it for late on. Contrast that to the royal ascot race where mars and glory awaits didn't finish too far behind Toronado and dawn approach due to the steadier pace that day. Anyway for me DOW has run his best ever race on my figures as too have DA and Toronado. the others ran below their best.

Excellent ride by Hughes on the winner, late & wide on ground prob a little bit better than near the rail up the home str, mite have made the diff? Cracking race & the form looks strong. Two very gd 3yo milers that are closely matched on form. Look forward 2 the next clash, hopefully on faster ground.

I don't really see what was so brilliant about the Hughes ride, just heard McNae on about it now. He decided to drop the horse out just like he did at Ascot, the race panned out for him perfectly, the best horse on the day deservedly won. I wouldn't mind so much if McNae was prepared to say when he sees a poor ride.

Seems a bit soon, but no surprise where Bolger is concerned. Sometimes his aggressive campaigning pays off but just as often it doesn't and can't say I'm a fan of it.
