A terrible day for me.

I started seriously following the flat when Henry had a 2yo called Wollow; I grew up following his horses.

A great, great trainer, and a true legend. This really is the end of an era. I can see how Abdullah has lost a bit of enthusisam.

I am very sorry and very sad.

Most of my favourite ever horses were trained by Henry - Diminuendo, Indian Skimmer, Kris and Diesis, Le Moss and Ardross, and more recently Frankel and Midday.

In his pomp you could follow his 2yo's and 3yo maidens almost blindly and make a decent profit, even though everything he trained in these races was an almost sure favourite.

In british and irish racing only Vincent O'Brien came close to Henry's genius.

A tragic day.

I hope Royal Ascot do something and not just the obligatory minutes silence next week.

Be nice to see them name a race after him. I don't think this would lower the tone in the slightest.

Yes, well said COT. I started following racing during the Cauthen era and it still remains my favourite period. I have good memories of those fillies you mention but it was a lesser remembered Cecil filly that gave me my biggest ever payday up to that point, when Kissing Cousin won the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot under Kinane.

Like most people I had written him off at the top end of the game, so it was great to see him prove most of us wrong, not only making a great comeback but going on to train the fastest horse I've seen in my years as a racing follower, and handling him to perfection. He will be truly missed.

It would be great if the Cecil team land a winner or 2 this wk at RA.
Place wont be the same without the Great Man. Love

I think Chigun today is the best chance of a Cecil winner and it's my first big bet of the meeting. I was really impressed with her last time in Ireland and a repeat of that ought to be good enough here.
