Newmarket Racecourse unveils Duchess of Cambridge race

Written bySPORTS REPORTER  http://www.cambridge-news.co.uk/Sport/Racing/Newmarket-Racecourse-unveils-Duchess-of-Cambridge-race-20130610193314.htm

Newmarket’s Cherry Hinton Stakes has been renamed the Duchess of Cambridge Stakes and will be run on Friday, July 12.

The six-furlong Group Two contest for juvenile fillies was won by Andrew Oliver’s Sendmylovetorose last season and in the past has been claimed by the likes of Diminuendo, Sayyedati and Attraction, who all went on to Classic glory the following season.

“We are honoured that the Duchess of Cambridge has graciously consented to lend her name to this prestigious race. It is a great thrill for us to have a second Royal race at our July festival and such is the popularity of the Duchess of Cambridge, I am sure that it will be a much-welcomed addition,” said Newmarket Racecourses’ chairman, Julian Richmond-Watson.

The full title of the race will the Duchess of Cambridge Stakes (Sponsored by Betfred).

I hope she wears a betfred sash when presenting the winner's trophy.

"...honoured...graciously consented..." - what a load of old tripe. It's still the Cherry Hinton as far as I'm concerned.

honoured and graciously consented is not the old tripe. The old tripe is this bit: "I am sure that it will be a much-welcomed addition".

It is not an addition. There is no new race.

HTH.

Actually, there is even some good news -- the "(sponsored by Betfred)" part of the name is better than racing's normal habit of sticking the sponsor's name at the front.
