16s on letir mor,
he impressed me hugely in his pacemaking for the Guineas in newmarket, he set the pace and was finishing a respectible position until final 200m when he ran out of steam if able to fun to his own merits he'll be there abouts
Report The Headmaster May 20, 2013 5:21 PM BST
He doesn't seem to be flavour of the month in the yard, and he had a nice run through near the fence when there was plenty of carnage around him, but I thought Havana Gold's effort in the French 2000 was notable. Not surprised he flattened out close home as he did the field in the space of a furlong and bits. 'Twas a hell of a charge, I thought.

He'll do for now.

seriously, what is magician doing in the decs,   Crazy
Report Markphisto May 20, 2013 9:47 PM BST
Agree Headmaster about Havana Gold. Eyecatching run in France. Missed the break, pulled in the early stages & came from last about 5 lengths behind Intello to lead but weaken close home. Could be interesting at decent prices if he lines up

Last bit of news I read was that Olympic Glory and Van Der Neer will represent Hannon, while plans have yet to be made for Havana Gold who may run in the Jersey. I would also be interested in his chances here if he runs, but until he is confirmed I will be holding fire.
Report The Headmaster May 21, 2013 10:00 AM BST
Good info Slabster, thanks.  Will tread lightly for now. Do you know if those plans were the yard's or the owner's or both?  Don't think he was supposed to run in the French 2000 (trainer wanted to go Dee), but the owner told him where to run.....might be the same on Saturday?  Not sure why they want to go Jersey. I think a mile is possibly the minimum for him now (as entries in the Dee, King Edward and Eclipse would suggest).
Report sintonian May 21, 2013 10:58 AM BST
A couple of conundrums in here. Will Mars run in another Group 1 mile? We know Colombo is supposed to be their Guineas horse.

Jim has in Trading Leather but presumably he won't run incase something happens to Dawn Approach in the build-up to the Derby next week? But then again it'll be only 6 days away so maybe he will run.

If Loch Garman runs well, makes a place, then Battle of Merengo is going to shorten up a fair bit from the 6/1 for Epsom you'd imagine.

Not convinced CC should be Fav. I know AOB dominates this race and his record of horse running at HQ and then the Curragh next time is excellent, but CC still only has a maiden win to his name and there were no reports on needing the run last time out, they seemed quite bullish and fitted him with cheekpieces.

I don't see much wrong with Van Der Neer at 5/1. Stiffer mile at the Curragh should suit.

Olympic glory out now.
Report roobuck May 21, 2013 1:06 PM BST
If they run Mars, take the hint imo
Report DMCK May 21, 2013 1:32 PM BST
if JOB takes the Mars ride il take note but until then he is nothing but a hype horse, ( Steinbeck of 2013)
Report Slabster May 21, 2013 2:58 PM BST
Hi Headmaster, that info was on Hannon's website I think. However, now that Olympic Glory is a NR, it looks as if Havana Gold will run and I'm going to back him at 14/1. Here's a link to the story:

Report sj May 23, 2013 1:45 PM BST
Gale Force Ten could run well(e/w) at around the 10/1 mark
Report jair1970 May 24, 2013 12:45 AM BST
This is wide open, good race lacking a star maybe.

Trading Leather is my idea of value but i'd not discount any of Fort Knox, GFT, GV, HG, Magician, or VDN.

Tricky stuff.
Report Drumadowney May 24, 2013 10:44 AM BST
Am I missing something? Why is First Cornerstone so big? This really doesn't look a good G1 and if anywhere near his best of last year he's already close to the market leaders. Although those wins came on heavy I wouldn't have thought he'd need it soft.

Van der Neer
Report lingbleed May 25, 2013 1:17 AM BST
surely george vancouver is the value in this wide open event , group 1 winner and really fast ground in ireland as we have had some good weather for a change you know how the henry's love it . small win bet as so wide open .the big one for me is on sunday look n to get my oaks money back on just the judge ,hopefully she can go one better ,the quick ground is a worry,so lets hope for rain sat night ,just a little bit . on at 100/30 ,good luck how ever you play
Report GoldCupWinner May 25, 2013 8:53 AM BST
I can't believe the price of the favourite on all known form.
Report kincsem May 25, 2013 9:02 AM BST
An interesting race with runners from Johnny Murtagh and Andy Oliver.  Good luck to both.
Van Der Neer with form on good/firm and AW more suited to the conditions than Magician.
Report sintonian May 25, 2013 9:54 AM BST
Wouldn't have a clue now tbh. Initially thought VDNeer was the one but just going to watch.
Report Figgis May 25, 2013 10:27 AM BST
Much too close to call for my liking. I have half a dozen of the field rated higher than Magician, I'll be pretty surprised if that Dee Stakes form proves good enough here, he needs to improve again. Of that half dozen I'm not confident about which ones should run to form, but hopefully at least one of them will as it's a lay of the fav for me.
Report Aurelius Maximus May 25, 2013 10:50 AM BST
Going to dutch Trading Leather (7/1) and Fort Knox (8/1) for me.

Not a vintage renewal but at the prices both represent some value in my opinion.

Cannot have the favourite on all known form. Granted he won easily but that Dee Stakes form looks poor (Contributor was 2nd and beaten yesterday in Listed Class at Goodwood).
Report EastLower Gooner May 25, 2013 11:38 AM BST
I'm with Havana Gold also...pretty astonishing turn of foot in the French Guineas....quickened up from the false straight to pass 14 rivals and make up 10+ lengths on the lead....hopefully jamie can switch him off even better today as he pulled a bit too much in the early portion of the race which probably contributed to his run petering out.
Report sewter lives again May 25, 2013 11:44 AM BST
I really like Havana Gold too.
But as usual JS is the problem for me. He has done me so many times with poor rides.
Hopefully the fact that it is a classic will concentrate his mind. I would be quite confident if Hughes was riding
Report Figgis May 25, 2013 3:26 PM BST
Poor call. Even allowing for the fact that the rest ran like donkeys, that was very impressive.
Report Sandown May 25, 2013 3:32 PM BST
Yeh, I thought that maybe you had over-reacted adjusting his Chester figures, and his action is that of a top of the ground horse. Shame he won't go to Epsom but at least I'm in profit with this one, unlike Telescope & Indian Chief.
Report Figgis May 25, 2013 3:36 PM BST
Sandown, you laid him for Epsom?
Report Sandown May 25, 2013 3:37 PM BST
No, I've got him as a free bet though, much good it will do me

Report Sandown May 25, 2013 3:41 PM BST
Backed him today though
Report Figgis May 25, 2013 3:43 PM BST
Oh right, I have to now wonder if they were right about the stamina issue for Epsom, as on first glance at that form you'd think he'd have pissed it in the Derby if he stayed (assuming DA doesn't).
Report Sankara May 25, 2013 3:44 PM BST
...and the pace Trading Leather went off at, it was run like a 10 furlong race in terms of the stamina required. Very upsetting for his Derby backers!
Report Sandown May 25, 2013 3:46 PM BST
They have him down as a speed animal but his pedigree for 12f is at least as good as that of DA, and probably better. He is improving rapidly, for sure, which is of course what can happen with 3yr now. I've laid DA rather heavily so I need something else  to show similar improvement.
Report Figgis May 25, 2013 3:50 PM BST
I think there should be at least one to beat him, not got all my bets on though yet Wink
Report Sankara May 25, 2013 3:57 PM BST
Bit of a blow for the Newmarket Guineas form there, which already looked pretty shaky.
Report Sandown May 25, 2013 4:07 PM BST
Sankara. That's true, but I'm not surprised as they ran flat out for the mid 4f in the 2000 and then collapsed, including DA. But, we mustn't forget that many were crabbing the Dee Stakes after Contributers run yesterday. But that  horse had no chance with Magician in the last 2f so his failure meant nothing to me. And yesterday was a 2 horse tactical race as well.
Report Sankara May 25, 2013 4:09 PM BST
Fair points yes.
Report Figgis May 25, 2013 4:20 PM BST
I actually had Disclaimer 3lbs ahead of Contributer after downgrading the Dee Stakes form a bit, so yesterday's result gave me confidence I was right. Maybe I wasn't, but maybe it's just that Magician is improving and he did do it quite easily at Chester.
Report kincsem May 25, 2013 5:15 PM BST
I got that wrong.  Three year olds change quickly.  The Derby picture looks murky.
My luck was my €50 at 18s George Vancouver was never matched. Happy
Report EastLower Gooner May 25, 2013 9:14 PM BST
got that wrong too...but are they going to waste Magician on the French Derby? 25 runner wildhouse...eclipse might be right up his street.
Report sintonian May 26, 2013 10:20 AM BST
Top performance that. Be interesting if Toronado can come back to his best because on a line through Havanna Gold it will be a good battle.
