Imperial Commander for the Gold Cup at 20/1 and 16/1 few days after 09 King George - couldn't get what I wanted to on him so came up with a strategy to get more running on at the price and had 3 ew doubles and ew treble with Menorah in the Supreme and Forpadydepasterer in Champion Chase. Big Zeb cost me a fortune :D
Biggest ever loss was Last Instalment in the RSA, did a fortune on him.

biggest win at fishers cross in the albert bartlett this year...couldn't help myself and was delighted when tony only had to show the horse the cane...
biggest loss was rooster booster in the aintree hurdle when johnson dropped the whip on the run in...a sick joke

I'm with you there (should have got it in the stewards room)but that pain pales into insignificance compared to my Six Perfections agony.

got 33-1 rough quest when the weights came out for 1996 national,he won it as 7-1 fav. thought I had done my money when they said he was unlikely to run about a week before the race. thank god they changed their mind.

Probably One Man for the Hennessey, quite a lot EW at 14-1 the day the weights came out. He had about 10-1 if I remember right, running off something like 130. Went off 4-1 fav and never came off the bridle. That was my best ever day for sure, backed 5 winners in all.
Most frustrating also in the same race. Take your pick from Gingembre at 33-1 (finished 2nds, convinced he would have won but for a deluge on the morning of the race) and Jodami at 14-1, who somehow managed to get beat off 10-2 before going through the rest of the season unbeaten and trotting up in the Gold Cup. A few more years of therapy and I may come to terms with it.

Mine was £40 win at 25/1 on Celtic Swing for the 2000 Guineas - lost very unluckily at 4/5.
On the other hand I did have £50 on Ballanchine for the Oaks at 20/1 and £50 on Workforce for the Derby at 20/1.
A good bet bet was on Diminuendo for the Oaks at 13/2.
The largest ante post bet I ever had was on Nashwan for the Derby after he won the 2000 Guineas - anything bred to stay 12 furlongs that wins a Guineas has to be a major bet for the Derby.

My first ever antepost was Authorized at 33/1, and hence I'm an addict now
Other notable ones off the top of my head: Comply or Die @ 130 (only for £3, the rest at 25/1) Was @ 60 average Odds (pretty big bet by my standards too) Was 25/1, Camelot 3/1 and Fame and Glory 3/1 in treble (large) and trixie (damn f&g) Frankel at 33/1.... for the bloody derby

Best was Cape Verdi at 14/1 to win Guineas - picked up over £6k. And Kings Best at 25/1 for 2000 Guineas
Worst was lumping on Hedgehunter for the National - the year before it won it :(. David Casey got it beat off 10st 8lb ish

best was Lillie Langtree for small amount @50s&48s for the Cornation Stakes, given how the SP ended up when she won.
Worst was taking 40s on St. Nic for the Derby as he was drifting at an alarming rate, having already had a good bet at 20s&33s before his maiden&after maiden, i think i was refusing to believe he was crocked at the time.
Nearly fell into the same trap with Pour Moi for the Arc but resisted thank god!
my fav loser was Born to Sea last year, i managed to take all the 40s &36s on offer for the 2000G as he hit the front in his listed race 1st time out. was delighted with myself right up until he started pulling for his head on the way down to the start, knew i was cooked then.

c100/1 Sizing Europe Champion Hurdle when he cruised to the bottom of the hill then went out like a light. Got injured that day & subsequent events lead me to feel he'd have won alright.

£300 on Orfevre @ 26/1 for the Arc. Followed by £100 on Fiorente @ 38/1 for Melbourne Cup, and just to add the final nail in the coffin £100 0n Animal Kingdom @ 30/1 Kentucky Derby. All Stuck up 2nd. Managed to lay off Orfevre for initial stake.

Landed a gd ew ante-p on Camelot at 16s in last years Derby For the 1st time in a very long time, I have not had a ante-p play on the flat Classics this year. Gd luck if u have.

Best - Chris Hollins for Strictly Come Dancing at 33/1, Long Run for the Gold Cup (can't remember the odds but it was just after the Good Friday Lambourn open day the year before, when he was the talk of henderson's yard)

Like most its the winners that remain long in the memory and I fondly remember - Selkirk 33/1 QE11 Doyoun 25/1 and Nashwan 33/1 in the 2,000gns to smallish stakes but big ones that got away were Deploy 2nd in Irish Derby beaten a neck when I had 150/1 e/w at Corals near Cannon St and other Corals nearby (total bets £150) and Anelka top goalscorer e/w at 100/1 in his first season at Arsenal. He scored 17 and 3 others got 18 goals.

^ I feel your pain. I was at Epsom when City Honours was beaten a head. Olivier Peslier got a 6 day whip ban. My £50 double: Shahtoush 20/1 (won), City Honours 11/1, and a few hundred win on City Honours.

I bet Dushyantor for the Derby each way @ 500/1 on the day he was born, just because of his pedigree.
He started 11/4f on the day and finished 2nd.
If Betfair had been around back then I wouldn`t be sitting here at a computer writing this post.

johnn, kincsem,I was on the winner for my biggest ever win,£100 win £20 place @ 66/1 after Pontefract and kept topping up,with what I won at Lingfield by derby day I was on over £10,000 to nothing,I have had numerous very near misses and am sure I will have been second to your horses over the years,it a cruel game.

Well done. It's lovely to hear of someone having a nice touch. High-Rise came with a great run down the outside that year. I had £40 at 25/1 on Shatoush in the Oaks the previous day so some consolation.
It sometimes seems the luck takes a while to swing your way. I've had a few near misses too for five figure sums, but have had a bit of luck too. In 2006 €7k (16/1+) when Sir Percy won narrowly. Last October €182 at 75s on Solemia in the Arc.

cheers kincsem,That must have been some feeling when Solemia started to rally and get back up,you will never forget it,I don't know if it does your heart any good though.

Took 33/1 on Hannon's Indian Ink to win the 2007 Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot, when the forecast was for a deluge of rain around a week before the race. The rain duly arrived and she scooted home by 6 lengths at 8/1.

3k @ 14/1 Workforce 2010 Derby. 2nd biggest bet of my life and probably easiest winner I've ever backed!
Bet was only struck because I was defrauded out of 78k by another bookmaker who refused to pay me out on an acca which paid 88k a year earlier.
Never likely to have anything over £200 for the rest of my days, but the satisfaction of winning most of what I was conned out of was very satisfying.

Shafted by IBAS basically, they allowed the firm to amend and backdate their rules to avoid paying me. Went to the Gambling Commission with the intention of taking it to court, but GC were equally hopeless and the firm in question closed their doors the same day that the GC told them they would be paying them a visit the next day.
I have since contacted various racing journalists who were shocked by the evidence I had to back up my story, but the bottom line was that the firm shut up shop so no chance of ever getting the money.

Similar story here but with Earth Summit for the Grand National.
Biggest winner was Lammtarra, on whom I'd been having the odd tenner whenever I could afford it over the winter, until I ran into a Racing Post journalist who told me the colt was at death's door in the Dubai veterinary hospital (doubtless why Hills were so accommodating).
Luckiest was Nashwan for the Guineas. I went into the shop to back him for the Derby but when I asked what the odds were, the manager came back with the Guineas price as well, which was too hard to resist.
The one that got away was Belmez for the Derby. He was injured but subsequently beat the previous year's French Derby winner, Old Vic, in the King George. He'd already beaten the eventual Derby winner, Quest For Fame, in the Chester Vase.
