Normally I wouldnt agree as I am a big fan of ap betting, but ante post is a lot tougher than in the past as trainers do keep their cards closer to their chest, so you get minimal information and often too late, also ground has been a major factor in my ap betting portfolio and backed horses beforehand, who I wouldnt touch on the day. Finally in big televised races, sometimes the price is big on the day, in some cases bigger than the ap price... which makes you think why bother taking the plunge early... this is something thats been going on in the last year with the so called saturday price wars.
Take the Grand National, ON HIS OWN 7s I am very confident that this horse will be 10s or 12s on the day. My ap betting has changed significantly in the last 2 years... because of these factors |

Flyingbolt - The Tidal Bay incident? Handicapper drops from original hcp mark would have attracted many punters(unwise or not) then withdrawn within days. I myself did not play, not sure if the market ever formed? But another example of possible punter folly!

I would go further i think there should not be a Ante Post market allowed, with Betfair unlike before Betfair there is more chance for Gambling (lay) manipulation.

Ante post betting is the only way punters have a chance to beat the bookie imo

So putting your very small bets on probable winners at a big price gives you a kick? But how much do you get on? Better let the mugs (like myself) form there wrong opinions then bet with 10mins too the off?

I don't bet ante post for a kick, its to make a profit. If you bet 10 mins before the off its up to you,but for me your chance of winning is less.

If the god judges(not me) were to play Ante post all the time, your value would not exist!

what Mark Coton(i do miss him) set out to achieve is turning into a nightmare for some punters.

Good judges do play ante post.Bookies make money from punters betting in low grade stuff day in day out.
My work colleagues bet every day on anything, cartoon racing, dogs, doubles trebles on football, darts. These people are the majority and don't give ante post betting a second thought.Thats why their will always be an ante post market |

Without any of inside information, following those that do have (Pricewise and connections), an automated bot there is very little chance of making money on racing as there is very little value. Value is profit and antepost gives ordinary punters their only chance of turning a profit long term if they have the ability to see things in a horse others dont and take the value on offer if there is any, which often there is not now.
