Why are utterly stupid idiots trying to back Our Connor at 4.8/1 less 5% commission on betfair when just about every booky is still offering 5/1?

There really are some rich or stupid people - or both

Such madness always bewilders me, yet I (probably like many others) can never be arsed joining the queue and cleaning up the fractions.
I would have thought some imbeciles might have read this and realised just how thick they were, readily withdrawing their dosh, but it's still there!

I reckon it could be a lucrative, permanent job for someone in finding these 'impossible to lose' situations, as there are countless markets on Betfair.

Probably because they hope to lay off and don't want to tie money up.

There's no real profit to be made by arbing at the moment. If you lay £100 at 4.8-1 and back £95 at 5-1 and are paying 5% commission you lose either way. And you tie up £600 for a year.

Probably because they can't get on imho

Only mugs get on these days

Why would anyone back the horse at 5/1 anyway? Joke price! Should be nearer double that.
