I see this hurdler's running at Sandown today...anyone remember the Henry Cecil version of the early 80's that was as touted as Killer Instinct?

It's one of those rare ones that's not been mentioned (that I can recall) on the Cecil juvenile threads.

Was it a Niarchos horse Navel?

1980's? He was only foaled in 1996! Thoroughbred Corporation horse.

TF - I can't remember who owned it, but what I can recall is that he was rated the best of the Cecil juveniles at one point (especially by Piggott) and after winning on his debut, he disappointed every other time and was subsequently beaten in amateur/women's races.

You must be thinking of another horse mate. Killer Instinct was beaten on his debut and was never ridden by Piggott. He never ran in any amateur/women's races and his last race was the 1999 John Smith's at York. His only win was a Nottingham maiden under Fallon.

TB - I think we have a few crossed wires...Lord Protector was a juvenile for Cecil in around 1982 - I thought you were taking the piss in your first post Happy

I was using Killer Instinct as a comparison with the hype, as he was supposedly something really special at home, which I'm sure you already knew Wink

Sorry Navel, wasn't taking the piss. We do indeed have a crossed wire!
