Am seething as this continues to happen....fancy a horse in the spinal research race and just because someone wants to get 20 quid on at 34 they destroy the price with the bookies whom we can actually get some half decent cash on with, whom see the move and cut the price without taking a bean... for people that want to have a decent poke this is very annoying, what is wrong with these people?? Please don't answer this with which bookies will take a bet? as we all have brothers, sisters and friends...

It is ridiculous and the pricewise gang that get the early info are the worse for it imo

thats fair enough pal and i certainly don't...but this constant swallowing of prices for ante post races just to get peanuts on sickens me and has cost me 8 points for saturdays race...if these people want to hedge, hedge on the day when there is liquid in the market but just to hedge to get 20-30 pounds on and ruin the price for every other punter who do want to have it off just sickens me...I could of swallowed that price a week ago but haven't because i want to get on with the bookmakers who you can ween the money on with careful placement...

Why shouldn't someone take the bet if it is being offered? What makes you so sure that books haven't taken money for the horse if others think it is overpriced? If you have actually taken the price 8 points lower, doesn't that prove that the previous price was value?

Anyway forget that, tell us the winner!
Report harry callaghan December 11, 2012 12:39 PM GMT
roobuck your missing the point pal...I have spent weeks sorting out a wager for the race for someone to come and put 20-30 pounds on on here when they could of taken the price with the fixed odds books...by wiping the price away they have drawn this to the attention of the books who then adjust there books accordingly...I could of taken all this a week ago but haven't because whats the point to get such small money on when i can ween it on through different sources so's to not mess it up for everybody...

of course it doesn't matter on the horses at the top of the market as everyone is backing them but it does to a long shot and now has affected my book by 8 points...over a year this is a big difference to winning money as more times than not they will get beat...

of course that punter has got the value whoopie for him or her but has now caused an adjustment by the bookmakers
Report roobuck December 11, 2012 12:53 PM GMT
Sorry was he 33 with the books then, and now 25s when it was actually the same price as the High Street?

Why would people wait and let some1 else take it? Thread makes no sense imo but gl

I never leave money up on AP markets on the bet side so the money was nt me that was left up, only leave lays up

People thought the price was wrong and took it, dont see the issue, turns out it was as its around 20s with the books now iirc, uf persona A doesnt take it the next person that looks 5 mins later does, happens in every market everyday.

U can tak the chance of one bein a NR and tak the prices or wait till its maybe a confirmed runner but u av to be prepared to take shorter and shorter the closer it gets to the race, thats the joys of AP punting!

Why didnt you just get your bets on early doors if you fancied it rather than wait until a few days before when everything shortens up anyway?

There's never much liquidity on here 4 a while now on these early closing handicaps - not much in the championship races either really. If your such a big punter Harry, you would av known the 5 day decs were out by 11am Monday and punted your nag accordingly. 33s was available 4 at least a week before on the Tizzard nag (were u hoping 4 50s ?!?) Sour grapes is all im hearing - nowt else.
Report roobuck December 11, 2012 7:57 PM GMT
The horse is now 20s - nothing to do with someone taking 34 for £20 on here. And if someone else also got the same reaction from  Sids, cannot blame them for snaffling what they could.
Report tinkler December 11, 2012 8:17 PM GMT
I doubt the person wanting to get £20 on at 34 has destroyed the price given that it had been available for a while at 33/1.
I'm sorry Harry but it sounds like you trying to scapegoat somebody because you missed the price.
Report duffy December 11, 2012 8:23 PM GMT
Anyways, whatever you do get on it, make sure you get out whilst it is still cruising, you won't get much out of it once it comes under the pumpScared
Report PeteTheBloke December 11, 2012 8:54 PM GMT
I can't believe that the bookies are busy monitoring 20 quid bets on here and wiping down their
boards at the first sniff of some action. They might be megas but for God's sake, they aren't
going to chalk 33/1 and pull it without even taking a bet.
Report Howdi December 11, 2012 9:45 PM GMT
whats the point please
Report harry callaghan December 12, 2012 3:31 AM GMT
listen fair points boys and was in a bad mood at the time of writing...I suppose it comes down to bookies forming there book on the back of betfair as there isn't an odds compiler left...it happens daily people taking the overnight price on here when there isn't much liquidity and thus the bookies mark the horse down on the back of the betfair price...

liam I am not a massive punter but do like to have a decent poke and back my opinion when I feel it necessary and how my bank allows me...my reasons for not dipping in sooner was the horse was available on here at 85's which I took but obviously wasn't sure he was a defo runner because of the price...the horse obviously went out on a tipping line

pete the bookies haven't got a clue...are just mere accountants now...I know this fact because have met people who know a lot more than me and have told me so...do you think bookies are returning an sp on the back of taking major money at the track and having there opinion...no they aren't, they are just monitoring betfair and creaming the money off the over-round...when I used to go racing there would be varying prices down the rail...go down the rail now and every rail bookmaker is the same price, why betfair....anyway people obviously don't agree and think I must be a prat for putting it up...
Report PeteTheBloke December 12, 2012 7:20 AM GMT
Harry

I'm sure you're right about the rails etc. but ante-post is still different.

Having said that, I see your point, and fair play to you. Hope yer horse wins Cool
Report liam the lips December 12, 2012 10:47 AM GMT
Harry, its far from ideal - bookies turning into spineless sheep. I suppose its just market forces and evolution.Pete is right antepost is different albeit riskier, there nowt worse than doing ur dough without a run. Bookies deffo follow the machine to monitor prices, you could always try manipulating the market the other way - its summat i do from time to time b4 the books price up the next day on weekday racing when the market is v weak, in the hope of hoodwinking their early prices (only when i really fancy one) It takes a bit of getting ur head around but has been successful.

Happens every day, over eager clowns bunging on pennies on here and wrecking prices. Very annoying

Sometimes worth laying a few soft bets on here to make sure it isnt an arb when you go in with the firms.

2. Punter may have several accounts, but only money in Betfair account.
3. Punter may wish to back then lay.
4. Punter may work somewhere with some kind of web filter where Betfair works but other bookie websites don't

Well shame really but don't think he had a prayer with the winner...slightly disappointed with the ride given...was hoping he would be up in the van because the horse isn't the most fluent.... I can see why david crosse doesn't get many rides anymore to be fair...but after clobbering the first it was all over...think the horse is maybe just a mut and the breathing problem that has been there still appears a problem...or maybe he just needs a flatter track not sure but he was a 1000 after 3 fences so glad he picked up to get the ew cash, shame as thought it was a good opportunity against the poor field but still frustrating as thought he would be an uncomplicated ride for a rider that doesn't ride much anymore...back to the drawing board
Report racingguru December 17, 2012 5:30 AM GMT
At least you did it e/w - I did it win given that if he had a wind issue he'd prolly be pulled up but I had a 60 quid cast Unioniste/GC which would have been very sweet. Colin Tizzard not the best judge of a good jock it seems to have Crosse up on it. Plenty of other lightweights available that might have got more out of it in the jumping stakes at least.
