I accept that on the whole prizemoney is poor in this country and ways of improving need to be looked at.
But look at the money on offer tomorrow in the bigger races, and then look at the number of runners. Disgraceful

£1800 for Ellison's debutant hurdling horse who was very moderate on the flat, just for jumping round in the first at Haydock - well played sir 
Thought the exact same last night. The first race is a poor turnout for the prize, not just numbers but overall quality.
The problem with some of the better conditions races is probably that Henderson and Nicholls have a lot of suitable horses to compete
in them and usually decide to run just one each. In the big 3 conditions races(hay ,Ascot) today they held nearly 50% of the entrants. If
the talented horses were more spread about then a bigger field would probably line up. To some extent Ireland has a similar problem
with Mullins and O'brien . These trainers deserve to be getting the best horses because of their talent but anything that edges
towards a monopoly is going to create an uncompetitive product.
Went to haydock today and agree the field was diappointing for the first and also the NH flat race but the rest of the racing was
a lot more competitive than you used to get when outside Aintree Haydock used to have the stiffest fences in the country and a lot
of the chases would cut up very badly.
