I know what you mean booster though I'm sure if they want to run the 3yos they'll race again to either get a revised mark ahead of the weights or to get a penalty. As I think they will get in off 96/97, I suspect the latter for both yours and Mubaraza.

To be fair, this is a hard enough race on the morning of the race so everything speculation at this stage.

BJG, I thought that when he won yesterday, but he will probably only go up one pound for that win and he was on 97 for Cesarewitch, 96 for yesterday, so wait and see
on Wednesday.

He went up 3lbs from 97 for coming 2nd in a CD Class 1 handicap last year - he would have to surely go up by far more than 1 for winning a class 1?

Find it hard to work out Tominator. He was clearly worth more than the distance of his win and is an admirable and generally consistent horse. On the other hand find it strange he has never been to Newmarket and not convinced the race/course will suit his run style - helps him having a bend with 1/2 mile or less to run

roobuck,
If he gets a rise of 3lb that should be
offset by the trip.Goes well on a galloping
track,and was unlucky here last year,over 1m.6f.
when poorly ridden by A.Culane.Has improved when
gone up in trip, and did well to win on Sat.over
that trip.Forget Chester Cup.Was never going in that ground.

Yeah, Roobuck, just taken 3-1. Backed it first time out at Haydock, one of Mark Howard's top 40 and won with a lot in hand. Next time out was very short at Ripon I think but seemed to not like the soft ground. Couple of runs ago ran a blinder in a very good mile and a half Glorious Goodwood handicap then couldn't catch Maastricht over a bit further at Doncaster, well clear of the remainder. Usual dead wood in this race and getting the allowance with improvement to come over the trip, should win if he's going for the Ces. Think I'll do a couple of Autumn Doubles tomorrow.

Good luck booster tomorrow because, if she is minded to run well, Rumh could be absolutely thrown in

When: 03 Sep 12 21:33
I guess she's got more than one way of running and it wouldn't be easy to try and predict but I've always felt he was a strong stayer and his jockey said the same after Haydock. Just don't think they wanted to go this far until the weights had come out. I'm expecting a big run like Motivado gave here a few weeks ago.

Not in love wiv GG's head carriage myself, still got alot on to win a Ces (off 93 @ HQ + a potential penalty). Good luck tho !

Got to agree. The jockey thought he may have an attitude problem after he ran at Ripon but I'd thought he was in need of the longer trip. The only thing I like about him for the big race is his ability to travel strongly.....plus the price.

Got a bit cocky today after landing a big double yesterday but got to factor in the fact that smallish field races can leave more to jockeyship than more conventional races.

'Rumh could be absolutely thrown in' - Shrewd observation roobuck - Congratulations - Hope you will share more words of wisdom in future!
Incidentally what do you think are the chances of GG gettin in to Ces?
By:

When: 04 Sep 12 18:48
Probably quite good aft. The last couple of years if gets the weight according to current mark, he would be £1 light but the year before he would have sailed in. At this stage it looks like 15-18 are above him and that in itself would be okay.

Plenty will run again after tomorrow's weights and they might need a penalty to be sure.

While GG ran ok today, if the race had been another couple of furlongs then I think Hurricane Higgins would have got back up ( hard to know because jockey may have waited longer on GG )and he might be worth a dart at 20/1 though the stalls with 35 runners might be an issue.

PW gives his verdict on Friday apparently so I am going to throw a couple of quid now at HH and also Mubaraza.

Getting back to our previous discussions aft, I am confident this year that a few 3yos will get in if they want to run

Tominator is set to make a swift reappearance at Doncaster on Friday week after finally opening his winning account in 2012.

Tominator: Doncaster bound

The five-year-old won the Northumberland Plate for trainer Reg Hollinshead last year but has found it tough going this term.

Soft ground went against him on seasonal return in the Chester Cup while he did not enjoy ideal runs in starts at Haydock and in the Ebor at York subsequently.

Profiles R Hollinshead Tominator
However, he bounced back to winning form with a neck victory in Listed company at Chester on Saturday and connections are now eyeing a crack at the Ladbrokes Mallard Stakes, a race in which he finished fourth last year.

Andrew Hollinshead, the trainer's son and assistant said: "Everything has gone wrong for him this year so it was good to see him win.

"He ran very well in the Ebor but they went too slow for him and he didn't get much luck, so it was nice to see him winning again at Chester.

"I think the plan now is to go for the Mallard at Doncaster, followed by the Cesarewitch at Newmarket next month (October 13).

"He stays very well and the Cesarewitch trip (two and a quarter miles) should not be a problem for him.

"The ground might turn softer by then and he can handle a bit of cut, he just wouldn't want it bottomless.

"I always thought he could be a Melbourne Cup type but his rating is a bit short of the required level at the moment.

"The owner has mentioned selling him and he has all the makings of a lovely jumper, he has plenty of scope, but we will see what happens."

Tominator is currently available at 16-1 with sponsors Betfred for the Cesarewitch.

Hope you are right about the 3yos roobuck - I have a sneaking fancy for Sir Mark's other 3yo Repeater, who could show much improved form if he should prove to be a true 'stayer'.
The one I have already backed at 33 is a SQUIGGLE horse!(must be the onset of altzheimers)
Namely Romeo Montague, who I thought was a revelation at Ascot! Good luck with old HH.

Well done, Roobuck, hope you had a few quid on. I think it's definitely an advantage to race up with the pace or in an uncontested lead in these smallish field races and you'd got the right man on your side to judge that. Cesarewitch wide open.

After the race Weld said they would go for a Listed race with him. However that's pretty meaningless with Weld other than to say he considers him a decent animal so if the handicapper doesn't react too harshly to his victory at York he could well show up.

If he is aimed at the race then it would be a pretty strong hint. Pretty tight in the market at the moment imo without knowing his weight

After much thought have actually played Biographer - I think the Melrose form could turn out to be very solid form. Don't know whether the race is still in the equation but he is very fairly treated and of course still open to a huge amount of improvement.

The horse I want to play is actually Mubaraza. I will read the PW column with interest to see if connections give an idea on their plans. Probably needs to get a penalty to get in and will still need the topweight to come out to ensure it can run off its correct mark.

Not as many NH horses seemingly entered but one dual purpose horse that could be very well treated is Hidden Universe. 16/1 is a great price if we knew he was turning up and if he did, unless a startling performance from an unxposed horse changed things, it would likely start favourite

What price would Repeater be (off 94) for the Cesarewitch, if he were to win the Doncaster Cup on Friday!
By:

When: 11 Sep 12 08:09
The horse needs a penalty to be sure of getting in and for that reason I think he'll run at Chester. Clearly if he won the Donny Cup or went very close, he would be a similar price to Darley Sun
