Looks pretty much over to me. Motivado gets a penalty and should get into the weights. Barring extremes of going it is quite hard to see how he can possibly be beaten as he has a ton in hand.

What on earth can stop him?

Reminded me a bit of Sir Montagu when he won at Goodwood before running away with the Ebor..
Report cryoftruth August 5, 2012 7:17 AM BST
Blimey zilzal, you are nearly as old as me. Wasn't Sir Montague a Ryan Price horse?
Report zilzal1 August 5, 2012 8:34 AM BST
I was 17 when he won (1976) and yes he was a Ryan price animal, took it up after the Turn and just drew away
Report cryoftruth August 5, 2012 10:00 AM BST
Yes I remember. You are not as old as me after all Zilzal.

zilzal when cryoftruth was born Vera Lynn was singing about the White Cliffs of Dover and the Luftwaffe were flying overhead! Laugh

Thanks Soldier, I was at school with Vera Lyyn's father actually.

Are you coming to York this year or is Mrs soldier requiring your annual holiday be taken abroad?

PS what is Aiden's main hope for the 2yo races

Yes my friend, sadly Mrs soldieroffortune has booked our holiday deliberately to coincide with Ebor week! So I'll be trying to catch the racing from a bar in Spain. I hope you have a great week in York.

Hard to know which ones he'll be sending over and things will be much clearer after the Curragh next weekend. Magical Dream is a lovely Galileo filly and she improved to win in Galway last week. She's got an entry in the Lowther but the trip is probably on the sharp side for her.

Warwick Avenue an interesting fellow for the Ebor and he's progressed well with his racing this season. However you're probably spot on with your fellow Motivado at the top of the thread. It's likely that he'll get in with his penalty and he could well be very hard to beat.

My concern about Motivado is that he might just have done a bit too much there at Goodwood. I know Prescott needed to get him in the weights but I would've preferred him to have an easier prep. I know he went clear and people might say he won easily but just because a horse wins by lengths it doesn't mean it had an easy time, it wasn't exactly a bridle job and he was driven a fair bit. The time was pretty fast for the conditions and the way he was gambled you'd think he must've been pretty straight.

Camborne for me, he's been very impressive from the moment they stepped him up to 12f, last time at ascot, buick held him up right out the back until early in the straight and even got messed about a bit when starting his run but you were struck with how there seemed to be no panic and he was ultimately an easy winner, he looks to be the type to be even better over another couple of furlongs and that long straight will suit him down to the ground, bit of a shame that of course he's going to be giving weight to some improvers like motivado but i'd have to stick with him.

the way he was gambled 7,s into 6,s after been put up by pricewise ,it was hardly a quinlan touch
Report morpteh mackem August 6, 2012 7:38 PM BST
thought camborne was gonig for a race in the states
Report Figgis August 6, 2012 7:53 PM BST
Thought he was 10s early doors and it would take more to shorten one at Goodwood on a Saturday than a typical Quinlan targeting of a tinpot race. Personally, I've always thought that pricewise has access to some inside information in some cases. In fact when I used to read the Post he'd occasionally mention one of his tips had been working well.

I agree with mackem that the last I read Camborne was States bound...if he turns up he does have a real chance.

Personally this has all the hallmarks of a real Prescott punt tbh. He travelled so easily at York, showed he acts on the course but obviously that race was before the Ebor weights released. Then allows him to run to get the penalty and Saturday showed he is well, well ahead of his mark.

If he gets into the race can see him easily starting 5/2 or shorter.

I have Willing Foe at 25s but cannot see me having another bet unless Motivado somehow misses the race. Was tempted to play at 6s but have chosen to pass.

20th aug, confirmation of entries.

Thanks Souldancer, another puzzle about this race, shouldn't GALILEO'S CHOICE have a 4lb penalty?
Report Figgis August 25, 2012 9:29 AM BST
I've changed my mind about Motivado, the time, while decent, wasn't quite as fast as I first thought so the race wouldn't have been as taxing as I feared. Considering the pace slackened he did really well to finish as well as he did from so far back. He could easily have another 7 or 8lbs in hand of what he's shown and if that's the case, as cryoftruth says, it's hard to see anything here stopping him, especially if there's a good pace on. 5/1 might seem short but I think it represents value here.
Report Figgis August 25, 2012 6:08 PM BST
A very unsatisfactory race because of the farcical pace, although I don't know how much difference it made to Motivado, who again looked a real handful for his jockey. I would've said well done winners but looks like there were none on this thread.
