I can see a betting thread for the Arc but couldn't see one for travelling advice.
I'm heading over for the 2nd time, but it's been a few years since I first went.
I'm planning to fly into CDG on Sunday morning, stay over and fly back Monday afternoon. Can anyone share advice on the quickest and cheapest ways to get to the course from the airport?

There is no metro close to the course from memory you end up walking the length of the bois de boulogne to get to the nearest metro, a taxi into central paris from Charles De Gaulle will cost you in the region of forty euros plus the tip, the train from Charles De Gaulle costs 18.50 euros so if there are a few then your best getting a taxi and split the price, if its one on your own get the train from terminal one or three and check the nearest metro to the course, you will need to get off the RER train from the airport and then use the metro, i suppose the taxi is the best option, tickets can be bought easily for the race from France Galop and the prices for good seats are very decent, ring them up they speak English when booking.

There are always free buses from the nearby tube station to Longchamp. You have to walk down the road a bit to the bus stop where there will be one waiting.

4 euros entrance on the sat, staggering 8 euros for arc day
 , top class hospitality in sea bird rest avail fot 75 euros, compared to over 1000 quid at royal ascot. |

horse racing abroad have quite good deals imo ,3/4 days for around £399, including eurostar, hotel with buffet breakfast, transfers to hotel and to the course, and entrance tickets. been on websites and eurostar would cost around £150, hotel £200 each 3 nights not inc breakfast, plus youd need taxis etc , so a cracking deal imo. cheapest flights are around £ 19, but add on around £ 100 TAXES
 .the horse racing abroad have optional excursions to chantilly training yards , plus if you wanted grandstand tickets including lunch at the course etc , could have a fab trip for around £700 imo, as i posted before on another thread a fine dining experiance alone at r ascot 1 day would be over a grand |

cheers all... Am doing it on the cheap this time, so flying over sunday morning and coming back Monday.. Flight is approx £100..
Just want to clarify the train situation if anyone can help.. I get the train from underneath CDG if memory serves me right.. Where do I get off and do I then have to get metro, if so, where to where?? Many Thanks |

You need to head for Porte Maillot (where the free buses to the course are) so work backwards from there.
You will have to take a RER (normal mainline) train into Paris from CDG. Alot of stations will have RER and Metro connections so work out which stop from CDG gives you the Metro connection you will need to Porte Maillot most easily. Somewhere like Gare de Nord or Chatelet would be a good place to start from memory. |

Carroll House was my first,Sea the Stars was the last,still can`t believe how fantastic STS`s looked before the race,after the season he had up until the arc, a truly great training feat by mr Oxx .Alway`s` a great weekend away.
