The racing is pretty average this weekend in the UK. Here’s some trends and a brief history of the major French race to be run over the weekend. La Coupe is run on Sunday 11th June at Longchamp racecourse over 2000 (approx. 1mile ¼ ). It is a Group 3 Race for 4year olds and older. La Coupe was first run in 1865 and has been won by some great horses in it’s long history. Two notable winners are Gladiateur who won in 1866 and Triptych who truimphed in 1986. Gladiateur won the English Triple Crown in 1865 after which he was nicknamed by the French as “The Avenger of Waterloo “. In 1866 , as well as winning La Coupe , he took The Ascot Gold Cup by 40 lengths ! His statue stands in the grounds of Longchamp. Triptych was the first filly to win the Irish 1000 Guineas in 1985 and went on to win many other Group races including The Champion Stakes , Coronation Cup and Prix Ganay. She ran her last race in November 1988 and was sent to the paddocks to become a broodmare .She was tragically killed by a farm vehicle, whilst in foal , at a stud farm in 1989.
