After seeing POWER return to his consistent and classy self at The Curragh yesterday he will probably take a bit of beating in this race. He didn't get the clearest of passages but still managed to win well. I was impressed with the way he just weaved through and used his turn of foot. Looks a great ride for the Jockey also. AOB has confirmed this will be his next run.
Trumpet Major finished 10th and was reported to have been coughing after the race. Clearly he is better than that but he's probably not Group 1 class on all known evidence and we'll have to see if he runs at Ascot or not.
Mikael Dezangles has confirmed Dragon Pulse will be coming over after disappointing in the French Guineas. He reportedly suffered a ''couple of issues'' during the race but is fine now. He looked quite classy on his first start for the trainer when beating Dabirsim. I'd expect this trainer to get the best out of this horse.
Not sure where Foxtrot Romeo heads next after his cracking effort on seasonal debut yesterday, finishing 2nd to Power, but there must be a chance he goes to Ascot next.
Hermival .. he ran OK in 6th. Possibly the ground too quick or perhaps just the travelling? Has been over here twice already now. Will he come over again .. not sure.
French Fifteen .. probably best when the going is Soft, but can handle Good. Not sure what the plans are.
The likes of Top Offer, Most Improved & Tales Of Grimm look like they will have their sights lowered until they have completed their preps/comebacks. All three are entered in the Heron Stakes (listed) next week at Sandown over 1 mile. Either of these 3 could still be anything, imo.
Surprised they seem to have given up at a mile so easily for Dabirsim given jockey issues were to the fore in both defeats. No outstanding miler has emerged thus far so I'd have thought they must have a go at the St James, as was original plan.

The Ascot turn would definitely help him get the trip better although it didn't help enough at Longchamp. Worth another go, if he were mine he'd try this, Foret and then the Breeders Cup Mile. If it doesn't work out he can always go sprinting next year but he's a class horse and should be given a go at a 'proper' trip.

I think the trainer said he would go back to sprint trips after his Guineas defeat. I think they felt he did not quite get home. We'll see anyway, it wouldnt be that much of a surprise if they try 1 mile again.

Hard to see Power being beaten if its proper good to firm ground and that stiff finish. He be buried out the back of the pack and let loose with a long sustained run.
Would not like to see the ride he got in Coventry last year in the St James Palace. Looks like a horse that does not want to be out in front for too long.

Despite a fast early pace Power clocked a 3 1/2 length slower time than the 6 y/o Dandy Boy (carried 10lb more) did over the same C/D 1 hour later. Unless there are different 1m tracks at the Curragh or they re aligned the track between races , there has to be considerable doubt as to the merit of the victory imo.

Whilst I'd agree about Power's victory ( and I have never particularly rated the horse ), it potentially looks a poor 3yo crop this year and so he may be good enough for this race

Power will be the one to beat as long as the ground is gd or faster. French 15 goes for the Fr Derby. Would like to see Dabirsim come over with Frankie up, needs to settle much better in his races, especially if coming to Royal Ascot, a stiff mile. I take it that Harbour Watch is not going to make it? Race looks like Powers at the mo.

Tinkler that seems to be a completely ridiclous fact. I can't actually believe that is true. I am no doubting you for one second but that seems completely out of the realms of possibility.
You may be completely right but I just questioning the sources of that info. Never mind even it is not I am prob in agreement that the form and the general crop of 1 mile horse is pretty average. I still think tho regardless of that Power is better than most of his rivals that are 3yr olds.
Power reminds me a bit of Zoffany but clearly he has more talent and is gutsy.

John Oxx is targeting the St James's Palace Stakes with Born To following his eyecatching performance in Saturday's Irish 2,000 Guineas at the Curragh.
The three-year-old half-brother to the brilliant Sea The Stars was among the leading fancies for the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket earlier this month, but was beaten at halfway having pulled fiercely in the early stages.
Connections decided to fit the colt with a hood for the Irish equivalent last weekend and while it had the desired effect as Born To Sea settled much better, he ended up a long way back before flying home to finish fifth.
"He's come out of the race fine and while we were a bit disappointed at first that he couldn't finish a bit closer, I think you'd have to be happy as it was a step in the right direction after Newmarket," said Oxx.
"Obviously after what happened there (at Newmarket), we had to try to get him to settle and I'm pleased he was able to do that.
"The jockey was obviously determined to get him settled and from stall one, I wasn't surprised he ended up last early on.
"He then ended up a bit detached before coming home like a train and in the end he was only beaten two and a half lengths.
"As things worked out he was a bit too far back, but I think there are more positives than negatives to take from the race and we'll look towards the St James's Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot next.
"We know now that he stays a mile well and might even get a bit further. I think he's learning all the time and hopefully things work out a bit better for him at Ascot.
"We'll definitely keep the hood on him next time. That seemed to work well so I don't think there's much point taking it off him now, although I'm not sure he'll need it forever."

Harbour Watch is at best "50-50" to line up in the St James's Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot, according to the owner's racing manager, David Redvers. Richard Hannon's three-year-old was hugely impressive on his three starts as a juvenile, but has not yet seen the racecourse this season after suffering a setback. Redvers, who represents Harbour Watch's part-owners Qatar Bloodstock, insists the colt is pleasing connections at home, but feels the Royal meeting may come too soon. "Harbour Watch did a bit more work (on Wednesday morning) and everyone was very pleased," said Redvers. "He's coming along nicely, but we do want him to be 110% when he goes to the races and Ascot is coming up pretty quick. "I'd say it's 50-50 whether he makes Ascot and I just suspect it might come or week or two too soon. It isn't the end of the world if he misses Ascot. It is still only the middle of June and there are lots of races for him. "It might be that we run him somewhere a fortnight after Ascot somewhere and then have a go at something like the Sussex Stakes at Goodwood."

Abtaal could try to get his career back on track in the Prix Daphnis at Longchamp on June 30.
The Jean-Claude Rouget-trained colt had returned to full fitness after sustaining a slight injury when finishing eighth behind Camelot in the Qipco 2000 Guineas at Newmarket.
He had made a pleasing seasonal debut when a neck second to French Fifteen in the Prix Djebel at Maisons-Laffitte in April; the winner went on to take the runner-up spot in the Newmarket Classic.
The son of Rock Hard Ten holds an entry in the St James's Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot later this month but is unlikely to take up that option.
"I think he's all right now. Jean-Claude said he just wrenched a joint a little and he had to give him a bit of a break," said Angus Gold, racing manager to owner Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum.
"He is aiming him at the Prix Daphnis at the end of June over a mile and a furlong."

Hermival in Ascot frame (UKPA) – 4 days ago Hermival is reported to have returned to France "sore" following his disappointing performance in the Irish 2000 Guineas. The Mikel Delzangles-trained colt was considered a major contender for the Curragh Classic after placing third behind Camelot and compatriot French Fifteen in the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket, but he was well beaten into sixth. Delzangles feels there were excuses for the below-par effort and he will now be considered for a trip to Royal Ascot along with stable companion Dragon Pulse, who suffered similar problems in the French 2000 Guineas. "Hermival came back very sore in his back and hopefully that explains the poor run," said Delzangles. "We will try to sort that out and, if we do, we will then make a decision whether to run him in the St James's Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot or go for the Prix Jean Prat. "Those two races are also the options for Dragon Pulse, but it will not necessarily be one horse in one race and one horse in the other, as they have different owners. "We will see how both horses are when the races are coming up and then decide."

RICHARD FAHEY: GABRIAL SET FOR ASCOT By Richard Fahey
Royal Ascot update
It's that time of year when all roads lead to Royal Ascot and I'm starting to look at how my team may shape up in a couple of weeks time. I'm not sure about my two-year-olds yet, but there's some news on the older horses.
Gabrial looks like he might be supplemented for the St James' Palace Stakes and Alben Star is on course for a crack at the Wokingham - it looks like the ideal race for him, it's where he wants to be.
Unfortunately, Mayson won't be running. He was in the King's Stand and the Diamond Jubilee but he won't run in either. He came back a bit sore last time, he got his leg stuck in the stalls at York so he'll have a bit of a break before coming back for the Chipchase and the July Cup.
Another to miss the meeting is Glen's Diamond who ran a cracker to be second in the Yorkshire Cup. He was in the Hardwicke but I've taken him out. He'll now go to Ireland for a Group Three the week after.

Could be interesting if he hangs yet again in and around horses.

Tales Of Grimm is on course for a Group race at Royal Ascot following an encouraging first run of the campaign at Sandown.
The Sir Michael Stoute-trained colt was third to Cogito in the Listed Heron Stakes on what was only his second career start.
The Group Three Tercentenary Stakes over 10 furlongs and the Group One St James's Palace stakes over a mile are the two races connections have in mind.
"It was a good performance at Sandown and he'll probably go to Royal Ascot. We're not sure which race yet," said Barry Simpson, racing manager to owner Sir Robert Ogden.
"He'll be in a couple of races. He doesn't qualify for handicaps as he's only had the two runs.
"He'll be in the race that used to be the Hampton Court, the Tercentenary. That's one possibility and he's still in the St James's Palace.
"He's promising and hopefully he'll run well next time."

I can see Power going off too short for this, faute de mieux, and will look for one to get him beat. The division looks weak this yr and I'm not sure I'd rule out the two that ran at Newmarket, Aljamaheer and The Nile.
They'd have no chance on ratings but an entry for Gosden's wd be significant.

Brian Meehan has given Cogito as his NAP of the meeting, fwiw, who will run in this race next.
There could be afew interesting ones against Power who are so far unexposed. Whether or not they can bridge the gap we'll have to see. On GoodToFirm i'd still fancy him.

I've had a small nibble on Fencing on here at the prices.
It will be interesting to see how the books price the race up as on all known form Power will have to be quite a short price favourite. Though TOG and Cogito are very promising and had the least experience in the Heron Stakes, the weight adjusted winner was Stipulate and he's not even entered and I would be surprised if he was supplemented ( if there is such an option for this race? )
Without wanting to be picky as you may see it as the same thing, but Meehan said Cogito was his best chance of a winner rather than his NAP of the meeting

For sure it's difficult to believe AOB will run more than 2/3 runners. Meehan may let Most improved run ,the horse appears to like a bit of cut in the ground and didn't have a hard race in France. Maybe he's left the horse in to take a look at the ground and likely field closer to the race or the plan is to pass the race and wait for the Prix Jean Prat. A field of anything between 12 - 17 runners could line up imo with trainers being tempted to run with no obvious star horse in the line up.

I'm not even sure it was the ground at HQ. I saw the Ballydoyle racecourse gallops with Camelot et al and Power ran awfully didn't travel well at all. It was reported he had a setback in the run up to Guineas so wouldn't surprise me if they used the 2000 gns as a good blowout.

To me Power looked very fit pre-race at Newmarket (possibly the fittest in the race) unlike previous AOB runners in the race which have looked overweight. The booking of Moore and price movement all indicate a very bid run was expected. Moore reported he couldn't handle the surface . If the ground is soft there must be a chance he won't run, maybe they'll declare him and make a decision closer to the race.

RP 16/9 The going at Ascot remained soft yesterday .Clerk of the course said "We had 9mm of rain overnight and have had another 1mm since,so we are soft at the moment. The forecast is for blustery showers over weekend but it's quite difficult to predict how much rain we'll get. We were due 2mm-4mm today and got only 1mm, then 1-3mm tomorrow,4-5mm Saturday and 2mm Monday. There is a decent breeze and if we don't get any showers it will dry out quite well.My gut feeling is the same. We're likely to start on the easy side. Tuesday and Wednesday look fine days and the track drains well and will dry quickly given drying conditions. Most of next week looks pretty encouraging."

16 runners? Poss traffic probs for Power, hope not. At least 3 of these should not be in here, way out of there depth & will prob get in the way of the better horses. Power has a gd post in 5, lets hope young Joe does not drop him back to far and waste the draw.

Decided to play Dragon Pulse on the basis he has half a length to make up on the Fav from their 2yo days and I rate Dezangles a better flat trainer than the former yard. Plenty of people wanted this horse to run at HQ after his comeback win but he reportedly had issues in the French Guineas. At 12/1, bigger here, with Fran Berry back on board i'll give him a crack. gl!
If Most Improved wins i'll feel really, really sick.

Will like the g/s ground (Dragon Pulse) had a bit on the place market on here 4.7. But he is held by Power on 2yo form, backed Power a few days ago at 5.0, hope the ground is near good for him, should still be ok on g/s.

I think Power is a cracking bet at around 7/2. He's no world beater but he's good enough to take an average renewal of this race. For me, he was a bit below par in the Dewhurst, but his best 2yo form/times puts him ahead of anything this lot have even done as 3yos. The Irish 2,000 win showed he's trained on, where despite the pacemaker tearing off it wasn't a particularly fast run race overall. I reckon a faster run race would've proved he was more superior than the winning margin reflects.

I think the drift is probably because of the ground, sint, as the soft ground was put up as an excuse for his run in the Guineas. I'd say it was more because he wasn't fit. His best form in Ireland last year was with give in the ground and, in any case, the ground today is unlikely to be as soft as it was for the Guineas.

whats annoying is when he missed the Guineas there were idiots on here saying he had no chance anyway, the usual assumptive nonsense etc. Clueless.
part of the game innit. No bother.whats annoying is when he missed the Guineas there were idiots on here saying he had no chance anyway, the usual assumptive nonsense etc. Clueless.
He can't have had much of a race there, so I'd imagine he'll be off for the Prix Jean Prat, as that'd probably be his last chance of another gr 1, unless they send him stateside

Nothing to do with this thread, but last poster mentioned a bad ride, if you want to see a REALLY bad ride then view the ride on MAN OF ACTION in Cambridgeshire, the race before he came on the wide outside and got home easily, yet it never occurred to DETTORI to use a similar route, which is a straight 9 furlongs so no need to allow for bends and bunching up.
