Someone asked me last night has there ever been a horse that has fallen in the grand national, only to go on to win it in the following year?

Didn't know the answer?

Anybody name one?

Big thanks if you can. It's doing my head in........:(

Silver Birch. I backed it the year it fell.

Red Marauder too.

Little Polvier fell twice in it before he won it, Royal Athlete fell in the Void National, and Rough Quest fell in The Topham.

anyone remember rhyme n reason being picked up at beachers  he lost a huge amount of ground  and was in 2nd last slowly he came back into it and beat durham edition at the finish .....little polvier fell five out leaving the winner in front .

little polvier finished 9th in 86 did not complete in 87 and  fell at valentines  in 88  before winning in 89 !

he won the scottish national in 88 ,i think he would have beat rhyme n reason in 88 but the scottish national was  a decent  reward .

this is the video of rhyme n reasons win go to 1min 30sec and watch it at beachers (far left) pink with purple hat ,watch the terrible mistake from little polveir at valentines. the winning ride was pure masterclass ,watch the winner at the canal turn (pay attention dennis o regan) winner was a decent animal .

I backed RHYME'N'REASON  that yearand during the race I did not see him land legs splayed at Bechers, but my grandson had seen it happen and when I said I'd backed the winner he told me what he had seen, so in the replay I watched out to see if he was right, because I class myself as a good racereader, have improved my observation skills since then, RHYME'N'REASON picked up a lot of injuries during the race and I think I'm right in saying , he never ran again.

I had him in 2 accumulators with, SHADEED 2000GNS,CRICQUET HEADS
1000GNS WINNER, STEVE DAVIS WORLD SNOOKER CHAMP and LIVERPOOL or NOTTS FOREST to win FA CUP, when they both got to the semi finals I believed my bet was a winner, but the NOTTS were knocked out in semi and LIVERPOOL were beaten in final.

shadeed was well punted ...happy days .

in the vid of rhyme n reason ,to say far left is a understatement ,i think but not sure that with the old fence jumping in the middle was the hardest option due to steepness of landing ,but could be wrong .

the horse was in the same position 2nd time around and was not the best jumper of the big fences ,but they must of fancied it and wanted to stay away from the inside early doors .

the prob with the national now is that the more that get round the faster they go in the finish and the harder the race they get .

*little polveir won scottish national in 87
