Sint, you have to wonder sometimes. I'm sure old Pumpkinhead plays with the straightest bat in the business, but look back over the reports of the incident, and then the amazing recovery from the 50:50 status.
Let's just say that it's good to retain a healthy scepticism in all matters racing-related.

It could just be the new rules on the betting here - they make it easier to lay the shorter priced horses once your book is full up. BB has been short for 12 months, hence he's the easiest to place bets on. It's all very confusing.

I wonder what would have happened to the markets on here if it weren't for the fall
I thought he may have drifted a little more. If Long Run had taken a crashing fall in the AON I think Kauto would now be fav.
Even if he is 100% physiologically I would still be worried about the psychological effect and whether soreness will return to his old high-mileage limbs after running flat out for 3m+ - seeing him jog round Warwick the other day means nothing really

after falling @ Exeter & being remounted finishing like an express train despite injured I would have thought 3 weeks after a fall would seem like a lifetime. Thought he really looke full of himsel pre & post race gallop @ Wincanton

Nicholls was interviewed on the radio today. He described the incident as a slight mishap if memory serves me right. Slight mishaps don't tend to result in horses being described as 50/50 for the biggest race of their season especially when it had previously been described in more lurid terms. Curiouser and curiouser.

well beaten after three furlong ......lets not mess about here
as bad as istabraq imo and probably worse as he the horse was taken for a racecourse gallop (lol) .
if a trainer of such a talent cant spot that the horse was gone he is either incompetent or arrogant .
thought PN should have been more forthright about the instuction given to the jockey BEFORE the off not after.
greatest chaser of recent times but should have been retired on a high .horse owed nobody anything but this is a multi million pound industry and the gold cup is not a race to let sentimental weakness rule the head ,what if the horse had put in a howler at the 1st/2nd and brought down half the field ?
horses reputation should have been protected by a man who talks about doing the right thing all the time
it was too quickly beaten and the wrong decision was made . the owner never really says anything and i just wonder who really made the decision to run ?

yeh your right ....easy to be critical and they had to give the horse a chance .....i did not back or lay it and did not fancy it at all but like many would have been in awe if it had won and i suppose when you look at the way the race panned out they were right to give it a go .
not a race a really like TBH .
just think when the horses become public property the connections and trainers need to be fair to the betting public.
perhaps it was a case of blind backers ,tbh the amount of people that told me it was a cert was scary .
even after the drift it was very solid .....but any chance of winning evaporated very quickly once the race started .
horse appears sound after the race so what is the correct conclusion to draw ?
