Can't agree with you on Ballabriggs and Don't Push It. Although Ballabriggs has been dealt cruelly by the h'capper, 7lb would have been enough, I think he'll prove what a real National type he is again this year. Might not win but will run with credit.

My comments were implying that they weren't National winners like the ones we have been used to. The race last year was a bit of a mess in my opinion, two fences missed out, one of those Becher's. National's are won and lost at that fence. Hence it's been spoilt somewhat by making it 'safer'.

gotta say im a sucker for front runners in the national, seabass has impressed me no end. looks a decent stayer and a sound jumper too. ted said he was a better horse on the good ground at leop and i would tend to agree.

Hopefully he'll get there in one piece now :)

What is your opinion of Chicago Grey? He should stay and has been aimed at this race. Slight doubt about his jumping.

Chicago Grey; very likeable sort and stamina will not be in question on the day after winning the 4m race at the festival last year. Should improve for racing on a likely sounder surface than he's had over the Winter and has had the race as the aim as you point out. It is his jumping though that's the major worry. Has already unseated Carberry on seasonal debut and almost did the same last time out behind Rubi Light. When he's facing the Aintree fences he could easily hit one or two and knock the stuffing out of himself. Others just seem better treated at present to me, but he's a reasonable each way selection and will run his race if he stays upright and in contention.

@Howellsy - Normally that's the case, but can't resist trying to disect the National from the turn of the year to the start of the flat season.
I really would have loved Seabass and Katie to win, I was cheering her home more than the others in the end! |
