Third rund today (2:10 Her) and if I'm in anyway correct about this horse (reckon it's the two or two and a half mile h'cap hdles at Aintree and/or the Swinton), we're due a much-improved effort. 9/1 e/w looks fair.
|
|
By:
This one is on my radar also.I personally couldn't back it today, unless the market speaks in it's favour, but it's first two runs have certainly been "eye-catching".Get a H'cp mark and go for the touch methinks.
|
|
By:
They need to show us something today, hemsby, or he won't get in a decent race, I don't think - his hurdle rating is in danger of going below his Flat rating! I'm hoping they will be thinking likewise. A fourth or fifth ain't good enough for Aintree anyway.
Could have done without the two non-runners though - down to seven now. |
|
By:
Smashed off the boards and wins doing handstands.
Roll on Aintree (and Haydock) imo. |
|
By:
well done HM.

Great shout HM,

The market spoke in his favour
.You was right HM,it's one thing spotting these horses, but quite another thing working out when the handbrake is eased slightly ....correct on both counts sir. |

Nice shout, TH.

Cheers fellas. Nice to get one right every now and again!
Should get a rating in the high 120s - low-mid 130s, I'd have thought....which would be a nice racing weight at Aintree. Job done for Donald - and not for the first time this season. ![]() |
|
By:
Yeah. I've not seen his last two runs but he must have been a blatant non-trier first time out given the improvement in lengths. Ferdy Murphy gets bad press but what Donald did with Son Of Flicka would have had Ferdy beaming.

By:
Good point re Donald Sint
it does appear that some trainers are thought to be above all that, but i have serious doubts. |
|
By:
Proper jobbing outfit, aren't they?
I've heard some boards are still paying out on Tara Royal (Muss, 11/02). To be fair to Donald, although it can seem slightly unsavoury at times, they don't leave it behind that often do they?!? |
|
By:
Yes defo Headmaster, won't be long and he will be top dog in the trainers league imo, very shrewd outfit

By:
I think you're right Headmaster, I saw the race today, has his 3 runs now and today was to get a mark to get in what? Aintree. VERY interesting if he turns up in a handicap nto. Defo plotted up if he does. Good spot.
|
|
By:
It was noticeable that Maguire was pretty vigorous when clearly winning, CV. Obviously they had a good go yesterday so winning was very much priority number one, but you do wonder if the right handicap mark also came into the equation. Do I detect a forum charge if he lines up at the National meeting???

By:
Maguire had a look around saw he was 10l clear and then gave him another crack and rode him on. Desperate for a mark, they knew the highest mark that could be given is the mark they need. Hopefully he can get to 130 at least (the 3rd was beaten 27l and is on 113) as I think they'll need at least that to get in at aintree.
If he turns up there I'll back him alright, especially if turning up in the 2 1/2 mile race, and keep an eye on the market, if he get hammered by Del Boy and Rodney I'll go in again. The race at Taunton he was held onto from pillar to post, no intention of racing and as Sint pointed out what McCain did with Son of flicka, and of course Tara Royal shows he's happy to do this kind of thing. will watch with interest |
|
By:
only just seen this thread but was thinking along the same lines and backed him when the money came missed the decent odds ,but the urgencey of j.mags ride ,the way he pushed and really got into this fella making sure it got the attention of the assesors , (chased leader, led before 2 out ,soon very vigorously driven to go clear ,eased flat ,romped home ) needed to get a highish mark for swinton or aintree or similar ?
|
|
By:
Maybe progressive but horses it beat are rubbish, and Fav underperforming big time! May get in off a low weight but is hardly a dark one anymore?
|
|
By:
A decent purchase at 8,500 gns at the Autumn Hit sale last year. Just goes to show there are reasonable buys out there. Even if he does nothing more over jumps he can take his chance in decent class 2/3 handicaps on the flat for the couple of years at least with a rating of 93.
|
|
By:
Been given 128. Reckon they'll be happy with that.
As long as they don't go loopy and enter him in the Top Nov Hdle it must be the race after the National (2m CJ/AR H'cap Hdle) with the boy Brooke riding, followed by Swinton. |

why do we have stewards ?

I think he'll get in fine, lots of those will be going for 2m4f race like Bourne and it's a gimmie
Sure aneyeforaneye is already jocked up and he's 4th last, he should have no chance of getting in. Maybe time to keep this quiet now. There's a reason we have a private racing forum so free info don't get out like this and ruin prices. ![]() |

And what ground would you be happy about? Would you leave it if 'soft' or worse?

Sorry Headmaster most of the old regulars left these forums few years back. We are infrequent visitors now. I'll send ya a link to where we are now.
I'd like it to be good ground. But would be worried if it were soft. |

No doubt I'll be having a few quid on whatever, roo - we've come this far after all

Worst kept secret in racing, we'd all been told about it winning at Hereford the weekend before and the 9-1 available in the morning was incredible.

R4s meant no 9/1 though
