It was announced today that Orfevre is not going to race in Dubai, even though he is registered for the World Cup and the Sheema Classic. His connections sole international focus seems to be the Arc de Triomphe in France. It seemed like an easy call, since Japan has been hell bent on winning the Arc for decades. Last year’s Dubai triumph really had us dreamers going through, about him concurring both. But he is just a horse. One step at a time right? The first step will be the Hanshin Daishoten (G2, 3000m) on March 18th, followed by the Emperor’s Cup Spring [Tenno Sho Haru] (G1, 3200m) on April 29th at Kyoto Racecourse. This is similar to the course that Deep Impact took in 2006, on his way to the Arc. Deep Impact ran in the Takarazuka Kinen (G1, 2200m) that year too, so it is possible Orfevre might start there too. He will be a heavy favorite in the fan polling that will determine the first 10 starters.
