Very progressive last year. Would be nice to see him on the track!

Yeh,love this horse,Backed him back in the summer, cant wat to see him run.

Visited the yard at Easter and trying to get a picture of him in his box was a fair old task, hes a right character, tried to take a chunk out of my coat!!
He would come up to me,then as i went to take a picture he would shy away, kept doing that.Got there in the end,but had great fun with him.

Apart from all that though, think hes a real chance of winning this year, but am a tad concerned about his prep to be honest.
Lets hope he makes the festival fit as he possibly can be.

Wouldn't worry about fitness Budd. Trainer is a master at peaking horses for this meeting.

this is a horse I like too,Henderson knows where the form is with Grandouet also in the yard,Spirit Son is definitly one for the short list, was impressed with his run at Aintree last year which should bode well for the CH.Think he will be 6 come Cheltenham which fits in nicely for stats fans considering Zarkander and Grandoeut will both be still 5 which have also been a negative in the past,he is great each way value at 8/1.

i know for a fact barry rates him very very highly and above grandouet  so this cant be bad  considering the way hes going!!!!good luck to all and tanx for info

Spirit Son could return in Irish Champion Hurdle
By James Pugh 1:28PM 6 JAN 2012

SPIRIT SON could make his eagerly anticipated return in the BHP Insurance Irish Champion Hurdle at Leopardstown on January 29.

Spirit Son finished second in the Stan James Supreme Novices' Hurdle at Cheltenham before he blitzed his rivals by 13 lengths in the Grade 2 John Smith's Mersey Novices' Hurdle over 2m4f at Aintree in April.

A general 8-1 chance for the Stan James Champion Hurdle next March, Spirit Son has not run this season and Nicky Henderson said on Friday that he or stablemate Binocular could run in the Grade 1 contest, which could also see the return of Champion Hurdle winner Hurricane Fly, who pleased trainer Willie Mullins in a racecourse gallop at Leopardstown on Thursday.

Henderson said: "We won't rule them in or out. I'll speak to JP [McManus] about Binocular and he has been very well since Kempton.

"Spirit Son is also very well, but it really depends on what happens over here.

"The ground will be a factor as well, but we may well run one of them. We'll make up our minds a bit closer to the time."

8/1 with pp for irish champion-I don't think Henderson will take on HF(if runs)with ss on his first run of the season.

Spirit Son unlikely for Champion Hurdle
By Racing Post staff 1:31PM 21 JAN 2012 SPIRIT SON, who had been third favourite in many lists for the Stan James Champion Hurdle, is set to miss the race due a leg problem.

Trainer Nicky Henderson revealed the news about the six-year-old, runner-up to Al Ferof in the Supreme at last year's Festival, at Ascot on Saturday.

Owner Michael Buckley's exciting hurdler had yet to be seen this season, having had a problem with his near fore in the autumn, but had taken part in a workout in Lambourn on Thursday.

Henderson said the problem - this time with his off-fore - came to light on Friday night.

He added: "I fear I have to say we have got to take things very carefully. He had a hiccup eartlier in the season which cost me three weeks. That was the off fore and a completely different area. Now it's the opposite leg.

"We have a problem we have to monitor. Whether he has to miss two weeks, two months or two years is irrelevant. If you miss two weeks at this point of the season then you are out of the ball park.

"I'd rather start next season with a horse in one piece than take a chance with the horse finishing up out this year and next year."

Spirit Son was a notable drifter for the Champion at Cheltenham on Friday night, touching 25 (24-1).

It is a shame but it happens every year and there will be other fancied horses miss the meeting through injury.

Some 'in the know' people have used a privileged position to lay the horse when they knew he was out. I'm really not sure how you deal with that with an exchange of this nature. There will always be a window when 'rumour' becomes 'fact'. There will be dozens of stable staff/work riders at Seven Barrows for instance.
