I’m confused about the new eligibility rules for the Grand National 2012. As I understand it, a horse has to be 7 years old to take part.

Why then, has 6 yo Promising Anshan, been available to back at 999/1 on betfair, whereas another 6 yo Organisedconfusion is available to back at only 60.0. As I understand it OC wont be eligible for the race, yet the stable have nominated it as a spring target?? (Promising Anshan was this price before he fell yesterday, before anyone mentions that

Can anyone shed any light please?

They'll be 7 on Sunday.

So am i right in thinking that every 6yo is deemed to hit 7yo on 1 Jan, regardless of what date they were born?

I doubt he will run in the race now after two falls so its irrelevant, but I think someone got the wrong end of the stick with Promising Anshan by laying him at 1000.0

Yes - all tacehorses trained in the northern hemisphere have their "official" birthday on Jan 1st, irrespective of their actual foaling date.

ok, thank you. Someone would have been sweating if Promising Anshan had won yesterday! I dont think he will get an entry now after all given his last two runs.
