A first-ever matchup between Buena Vista, the winner of the Japan Cup last month, and Orfevre, the winner of the 2011 Japanese Triple Crown, will be the focus of Sunday’s Grade 1 Arima Kinen at Nakayama Racecourse.
The Arima Kinen is worth approximately $4.9 million and is run over about 1 9/16 miles on a right-handed track.
Buena Vista, a 5-year-old mare, will be favored on the strength of her hard-fought win in the Japan Cup on Nov. 27, when she edged Tosen Jordan by a neck. Tosen Jordan is also part of the 14-runner Arima Kinen field.
Sunday’s race will be Buena Vista’s third consecutive start in the Arima Kinen, preceded by second-place finishes in the last two years. She breaks from the rail and will be ridden by Yasunari Iwata. The 2010 winner of the Arima Kinen, Victoire Pisa starts from post 2. Victoire Pisa won the Dubai World Cup earlier this year but was only 13th in the Japan Cup.
Jaguar Mail, third in the Japan Cup, also starts in the Arima Kinen.
Orfevre has not started since winning the Japanese St. Leger in October. Earlier this year, he won the Japanese 2000 Guineas, Japanese Derby and two Grade 2 races. He was held out of the Japan Cup in favor of this race.

I believe you can access the betting through the Oz Tote on here.
The last triple crown winner , Deep Impact managed to get beaten in this race so it is a tough ask for a 3yo . But Orfevre will be sent off favourite ahead of Buena Vista which testifies to how impressive he has been this season.

The video of the race is on japanracing.jp. It was a cracking finish, I just wish To The Glory would have produced that finish in the Japan Cup.
Orfevre looks a good horse, it will be interesting to see where they take him next year!

at least next year's ARC is on the agenda...I remember snaffling 25/1 eachway off lads in the summer for Deep Impact.
Might have to book a trip to Longchamp too....this could be a Deep Impact II and if thats the case I'll want access to the PMU. finding it more and more difficult to get PMU bets on. vex.
....about ToTheGlory...shame I'm not a billionaire and got a few million lying around cause I would snap up that ToTheGlory in a heartbeat and point him straight at the Supreme Novices :)))

red with yellow sleeves on the outside...proper horse. you can pick him out about 4 furlongs out travelling like a really good one.

Thanks for the "heads up", but our bookies struggle to lay these days, they must be making enough, yet they always claim that things are bad, especially when they are asked to pay more levy.
