Frankel is likely to tackle 10 furlongs for the first time in the Coral Eclipse Stakes at Sandown next July.

Trainer Sir Henry Cecil has had time to reflect on the perfect year enjoyed by the three-year-old, which concluded with another dominant display in the QEII Stakes at Ascot.

While he never quite reproduced his jaw-dropping performance in the 2000 Guineas, he nevertheless stretched his unbeaten record to nine races.

Cecil is keen to step him up in trip next summer and it appears that after a likely comeback in the Lockinge Stakes, he will be heading to Sandown.

"Frankel has had a great year and is hugely exciting. He really has caught the public eye and it was great that he has given an interest to so many people," the trainer told

"Hopefully he will go on and I hope, by the time of the Eclipse Stakes, he will be ready to tackle a mile and a quarter.

"Personally I think it is a distance he will get well now that he has learnt to settle better and he could be an even better horse at that trip.

"Let's hope he winters well and remains sound. Racing needs champions and let us pray that he can continue where he left off."
