It's been a while since I've been impressed with a French 2 year old middle distance colt but this horse could have the potential to go all the way to the top. There seemed a real buzz about the horse before the race today and he was backed into 1/2 industry price..
The performance today wasn't breathtaking but considering he ran all over the shop in the straight and still won comfortably there looks to be plenty more to come. The problem for next year could be his Godolphin ownership and the likelihood that he'll transfer to Newmarket at some point next year but hopefully it's the rising Al Zarooni that takes over rather than the woeful Bin Suroor.
The French or Epsom Derby will be the early season target and as a son of Manduro, it would be great to see him fulfil what his sire cruelly missed out on and conquer the Arc next October.

Not aftertiming as I posted my bet on the Flat Turf thread, but I smashed this horse today .. he was very impressive on Debut, wonderfuly bred and trained by the king of kings.
He looked pur class today and was very,very green. The second favourite probably didn't give his running,though, as he was sweating up badly and kicking out before the off. As you say, biggest worry is switching the trainers .. |

Imo it is very possible connections will leave him with Fabre next year, then join Godolphin as a four year old.
In recent times, of the top of my head I can recall 2 decent horses that stayed with Fabre as 3 year olds, Cutlass Bay and Simon de Montford. There are probably many more. |

Once again a question mark is left hanging over a promising 2 year old with the switch in stables. Sheikh Mohammed has continued to transfer horses from world class trainers seemingly just to have a trainer from his homeland take the big prizes.
This policy has cost him dearly in recent years with injuries and loss of form affecting many high profile horses. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" springs to mind. While Godolphin had huge success in their early years, the last 10 have been disappointing for a stable of their size. The fact that their only 2 Breeders Cup runners this year were US based sums it up. No one can convince me there'a a better man than Fabre to train a son of Manduro for the classics next year but sadly we won't see it with this horse. |

Authorized - fair enough comments if Mandean was going to bin Suroor, but Al Zarooni has shown he is not Suroor.
2 seasons in charge of his own base and look at what he has achieved: Winner of: - 1000 Guineas - Irish Oaks - Prince of Wales - Yorkshire Oaks - Sheema Classic - Fillies Mile - German Derby - Italian 2yo Group 1 Different trainer, different regime and I have every confidence in his ability to train a Derby winner sooner or later. |

Aurelius, I did mention Al Zarooni as a trainer on the rise in my first post on this thread. I can see him potentially training a Derby winner but he got very little out of the promising Dubai Prince and Casamento last season which may be down to different trainers, different methods. I think there's a good chance both would've fared better if they'd stayed in Ireland. Weld said on ATR Dubai Prince was his best 2yo since Grey Swallow.
It is interesting to note that Mandaean will stay in Newmarket as Blue Bunting did last year and Al Zarooni did achieve great success with another Fabre inmate Rewilding so all is not lost by any means. |
