I can't help but think that the new rules have gone seriously ott?
I'm not sure if the reason why I am so against it has been discussed on here yet so here goes....
To my eyes this seems like a rule which is going to affect the bread and butter jocks most, those men and women who travel up and down the country, the ones fighting for the lowest prize money. If the likes of Dettori, Spencer, McCoy lose their riding purse for one whip too many it's not really going to have an affect on their lifestyle. The top guys are all millionaires anyway.
What about the journeymen though? I would not be surprised if the new rules prove to be the straw that breaks the camels back for some of them. I hope I am wrong as I would hate to see good pros retiring early because the new rules mean they cannot make the job pay

On a side note, how long before a jock easing his mount out of the places blames the new whip rule?

I think there is too much hysteria at the moment. There needs to be time given to it and see how it goes and to see IF jockeys can adjust, although an introductory period of 4 weeks would have been a good idea.
I agree with your point about the jockeys at the lower end of the scale. Natalie Gemelova got a 7 day ban yesterday, lost her % percentage of prize money and riding fee. Afterwards she explained that she spent £110 in travel expenses and only gets very few rides per week. People like her, unfortunately, will simply not be able to make ends meet if they cant adapt to the new rules.

Looks like a backwards move to me. Will in no way improve the sport or the breed but just makes it hard for the small guys. Godolphin & Frankie don't have to worry as £ is no object and they just pull another one out of the stable if it can't win races under the new rules. A lot easier for jockeys to balls up a horses chances and ride out hands & heels no q's asked. It does worry me a bit where this is heading. How pissed off are you gna be if u lump on a horse who sticks to the rules but gets beat a short head by someone who gives it an extra couple of smacks? I haven't had a bet under new rules as of yet and will not be getting too involved until I see how this works out. Totally different model.
