Aidan O'Brien has five runners on Champions Day at Newmarket on Saturday with the following provisional riding arrangements (as per the Racing Post):

Middle Park Stakes: Crusade (S.Heffernan) and Reply (Ryan Moore), both carrying 8st 12lbs
Dewhurst Stakes: Power (Ryan Moore), carrying 9st 1lb
Rockfel Stakes: Wading (Ryan Moore), carrying 8st 12lbs
Autumn Stakes: Astrology (J.P.O'Brien), carrying 9st

Now Joseph O'Brien can still just about do 9st - he carried 9st when winning on Wading (on 23 Sept) and Up (on 30 Sept), so why has he lost the ride on Wading in the Rockfel?  Why, for that matter, has Seamie Heffernan lost the ride on Power (on whom he was successful in the National Stakes)?  Is Ryan Moore now Ballydoyle's first choice jockey?  If so, why isn't Moore on board Astrology in the Autumn Stakes?  Can anyone make any sense of these provisional riding arrangements?

Sorry, ignore the rhetorical question concerning JPO'B losing the ride on Wading in the Rockfel - he's presumably lost the ride because he'd have to put up a couple of pounds overweight. But the other riding arrangements are, shall we say, a bit inconsistent...  Seamie Heffernan must be feeling especially aggrieved.

The way I see is that they view Ryan Moore as the best rider and he will ride their best horses in the top
races. In the lesser races ,even a group 3 in this case their not really that bothered who they put up.
In some cases I think they put up the Ballydoyle rider who has been riding that horse a lot at home.
Ryan Moore is a cut above the other Ballydoyle riders and it only enhance the chances of Power that he's
riding it.

My understanding is that they want to use the best available. Ryan Moore is the best available, at riding newmarket. Obviously at the Curragh Heffernan shouldn't be replaced as he is one of the best at riding that track.
Personally I don't see why he is travelling over for 1 ride on an unfancied runner.

Also I feel they are offering big rides to moore with one eye on the future, to convince him it would be worth becoming stable jockey.
