Maybe finished for season

Having backed her at big prices for the 1000 Guineas, I'm very pleased to hear that she's not going to take up her invitation to the Breeders Cup (Juvenile Fillies).

The right decision.

james you and I both have backed her for the Guineas at large prices ante-post and she'll win it.

Hopefully will be trained for the classics next year ???

Maybe (pun intended) they plan to use the English 1000 guineas as a warm up race like they done with Misty For Me this year? while readying a supposed lesser fancied stablemate, won't find out for another 7 months either ways.

What a horrible Race the Marcel Boussac has now become with the defection of Maybe,you will struggle to find a worse Group 1 for a long time

I disagree about the Boussac.  Fire Lily and Yellow Rosebud are two of the best fillies in Ireland, Zantenda is possibly the best juvenile filly in France, and Elusive Kate was an easy winner of a Group 3 last time (beating a highly regarded filly of Rouget's in the process).  Rajastani and Falls Of Lora both have something to prove in this company, but it's a good renewal of the Boussac despite the small field.

an odd statement by O'Brien. Presumably Maybe had an injury and from the sounds of it, serious enough to prevent training her properly for the Guineas?

I do hope she is OK and that she is not retired during the winter. I laid my stake back at 6/1 after the Moyglare and i'd advise others to do the same. Despite being unbeaten, there is no guarantee Aidan will have her ready for HQ. IF she is you can just back her back on the day.

The market during the Winter months will tell us if they plan to have her ready or not just like it did with Misty.

I wonder if the difference between Misty For Me and Maybe is that in the case of MFM, they had half an eye on a middle distance campaign? Maybe looks more of a miler, so a Guineas prep could be her main early season focus.

I don't think there's any suggestion that Maybe has picked up an injury or anything like that.  Aidan tends to use the word 'hopefully' a lot when making public statements and in interviews.  He simply means that the plan is to train her for the classics next year (if all goes to plan in the meantime).  There's any number of reasons why they decided not to run her in the Boussac.  They never said she was a definite runner.  Perhaps they just feel that she's done enough for this season.  I get the impression that Maybe is rated more highly than Misty For Me was at this stage of her career, so they are likely to do everything possible to enable her to extend her unbeaten record in the Guineas.

Lets hope so. And that is what sets out Maybe from his previous Guineas 2y0s, the fact she is unbeaten. They'd love to have her unbeaten thoughout her 3yo career aswell, but personally think it would be wise to take precautions over the winter if you have the 33/1.

it does appear strange though that she was withdrawn twice in the last week, i mean, running her once more this season wouldn't set her back for a race in 6 months time, Samitar ran her "rocks" of last week, same again this week, i don't think this will affect her prep. for the Guineas in 6 months, the way i see it, if you have a filly at the top of her game just now, for the prize money on offer plus the prestige, it makes no sense to wrap her up for 6 months. just look at last years Guineas, all those non runners and big disappointments. as far as i'm concerned, something doesn't add up with Maybe. cheers.

The forum user 'soldieroffortune' is extremely closely attached to the ballydoyle stable and has only hinted that she'll go straight to the english 1000 guineas but defeat is out of the question from what he says.

In the absence of any specific news from Ballydoyle it's very difficult to second-guess the reasons for Maybe's non-appearance in the Boussac.  If there was a serious problem with the filly it's hard to believe that they would have left her in the Fillies' Mile and the Boussac right up until such a late stage.  Anything we come up with is pure conjecture, but I wonder whether they were put off by fast ground in the Fillies' Mile (even though she won on good to firm ground on her debut, trainers are sometimes reluctant to run their best horses on such ground a second time, particularly in a 'hard' race like a Group 1) and perhaps a combination of concerns about the state of the ground at Longchamp and the hot weather (which makes travelling much more arduous for a two-year-old filly) put them off running in the Boussac.  Or perhaps they intended to run her in the Boussac but she has just started to go in her coat and they think she's now going 'over the top'.  Who knows.  It would be nice if someone from Ballydoyle could issue a reassuring statement about the filly, but I'm not going to hold my breath...
