Surely good enough to have as go at that lot.

23 Runs at 1m 2f (including one as a 2YO!)

0 at 1m 4f

He has acheived plenty at 10f but i think Cecil takes the 'if it ain't broke don't fix it' maxim to extremes.

Sir Henry knows it woudln't stay and the Prince has Workforce. Two good reasons.

How can anyone know it doesn't stay Confused

Often in the 10f races he has won he does not look at all likely to win with 2f to go.

Seems a shame that he will never attempt the trip, might have been his best trip for all anyone knows.

Twice Over will not stay 1m 4f. If he did he would of gone to the Derby after coming 2nd in the Dante. In that rise he appeared not to stay 1m 2f hence over the years being raced at 1m rather than up in trip.

I recall he was being trained for the Derby, and it was a shock when he got beat at York . But that was one race 3 1/2 years ago ,which he would have got beat at any distance as he just ran poorly.

They have tried him at 8f a few times and he has never come close to winning anything there .

But the distance he was said to have not stayed was the same course and distance he's just won a Gp 1 over. I thought the stamina excuse was used at the time when the real truth was he just wasn't that good as a 3yo. I'd be surprised if a horse that could win over 10f as a 2yo in a good time couldn't get the extra 2f later.

I remember the bugger outstaying just Ravens Pass (jock hardly shook RP up) who I'd a nice bet on in the Craven and if you'd told me then he'd never try 1m2f i'd have been astonished, RP ran all over him everywhere but the line.
Report zilzal1 September 29, 2011 4:35 PM BST
Im surprised that he wasnt given a try over 12f at one time though, funny you mentioned Ravens Pass, i think the Dewhurst result stopped him winning more races as he was ridden more out the back after that until the Qe11 where for the 1st time he managed to turn the tables on Henry by getting 1st run

AT , i suppose it is more valuable for Prince K to have Workforce win a 2nd Arc but he didn't mind running 2 at the Juddmonte. Workforce's valuation is likely to take a knock if he finishes out of the places on Sunday but 2nd to Twice Over would not have harmed him considering what he would have finished in front of and of course Twice Over himself would be worth so much more.

Just mystifying to me that Twice Over has seemingly never been considered for a 12f Group 1 since that Dante given his running style and what Figgis and Neil said which i agree with.

I do remember at 2YO he just seemed a bit short at Group 1 level whatever the trip, but has improved a lot since.

* At 3YO i meant sorry
Report zilzal1 September 29, 2011 4:46 PM BST
didnt he win over an extended 9f as a 2yo??

he improved with age and was well placed, i was at York that Dante Day and didnt think that it was the staying that was the problem, if i remember rightly it was a small field and it wasnt at a blistering gallop

Only wins weak Group 1s.
Report tobermory September 29, 2011 5:01 PM BST
Fair Point, but you could say that about a few others in the race.

I would not have him too prominent in the betting if he had run, but he would have a chance.
Report neill d September 30, 2011 3:57 PM BST
sorry meant 12 furlongs
Report Darren Lamb September 30, 2011 8:29 PM BST
i think the horse will be worth try at 1m4f, ideally in the BC turf.
