Hi all,
I'm planning to go to the Arc this year, however im on quite a tight budget!! Id like to fly into Le Bourget on the Saturday night, stay in a hotel close to the airport and then travel down to Longchamp Sunday morning before getting a flight home again Sunday night! Will this be possible? How difficult is it to get from Le Bourget to the course? Train? Taxi? Bus? Anyone any experience and can help me out? Thanks in advance.

Have you thought about driving?
For the last two years I have driven to Arc day, going there and back in the same day, leaving very early (!) on Sunday morning and arrving back very late (!) on Sunday. From the UK Midlands it has cost me about £160 for the total travel costs. I can provide a breakdown of the costs if you wish. One advantage of driving is that you could find a budget hotel in the Paris suburbs travelling on Saturday if you did not wish to do all the driving in one day. Anyway, good luck with your plans. |

I am pretty sure there are 2 very simple options here:
RER overground train from Le Bourget to Gare de Nord - takes 15 to 20 mins and only 3 or 4 stops. Then take the metro line 4 (direction Porte de Clignancourt) for ONE stop - change onto metro line 2 (direction Porte Dauphine), get off at Charles de Gaulle Etoile and finally take the metro line 1 (direction La Defense) for one or two stops - You get off at PORTE MAILLOT and Longchamps is a shortish walk through the Bois de Boulogne - a bus will take you straight to the course in a few mins but with traffic all going there you would be quicker walking! The views along the walk are nice in any case as the "professional working girls" are doing their thing ;-) Option two - but you would need to check this for sure! Porte Maillot has a bus terminus which serves the airports of Paris - I know it serves Beauvais (where Ryanair fly to) so it is possible that one bus serving Le Bourget would take you directly to Porte Maillot and the leisurely walk afterwards with all its views ;-) Paris is a very simple city to get around even when you have multiple line changes. A fab weekend in store no doubt and the Queen of the track racing that day too - Goldikova! Who knows it could be a Goldi Gali double............!! Bonne chance. |
