Yes it will be sad not to see them anymore, but they have defined an era of NH racing and will always be remember.

I think Kauto should be retired now. Cant quite believe they will give him another run. He positively regressed with each passing run last season. All down hill after Down Royal.

Denman on the other hand could still be a threat, imo, fit & fresh.

Sint, I agree with you regarding Kauto not carrying on. But I can't agree that his Down Royal run was better than his Gold Cup run. While Denman still seems able to perform at a high level once or twice a season he doesn't seem able to win anymore. I think they should retire them both - nothing left to prove and no longer able to perform to their best.
All good things come to end unfortunately and they will leave a big hole. Two like this don't come along every week

The last comparable time was the start of the noughties - lost Gloria Victis, Lake Kariba, Strong Promise and Nick Dundee and Looks Like Trouble to injury.

Any conditions chases for Denman??

How about that one at Ayr that One Man and Jodami used to run in at the start of the season??

I hope they retire them soon. Don't want another Best Mate or Rooster Booster etc.

Yes I know these things can happen when they are out in a field but I'm sure the rigours of training and racing can't help as they get on. Esoecially when they have had such a long career. What is there to gain from Kauto running this season? It can't be money that is driving Clive Smith on, it can only be the love/thrill of seeing him race. However sooner or later he has got to see the light.

You could make a case for Denman carrying but Kauto has had so many tough races at the top level and there can only be so much petrol in the tank. The odds of a french bred racing as long as Kauto has must be massive never mind winning so many of them.

I'd like to see KS race on. Did Red Rum not win a national at 12? ~You can never discount  a horse of so much class ,even at his age.
Like humans some horses get bored with retirement and maybe he's the kind of horse that would get bored
stuck out in a field 24/7.Horses are there to raced as long as their up to it.
Nicholls will know when its time to call it a day.

Nicholls is always saying Denman & Kauto are great mates and enjoy their time together in the field - why not leave them there then. Nothing left to prove

I see Nicholls is saying that Kauto is showing "all the right signs" again. I'm sure he says this before every race now, including Punchestown. I've said it before but there seem similarities with boxers at the end of their careers. Always having their best training camps but having nothing to give when they get in the ring.

It always warms my heart to learn that Denman and Kauto are mates just adds to the romance of the whole era Love
