With the demise of the favourite for the Arc will he be missing the Leger for the Arc now? Workforce has not been the horse of last season surely Sea Moon will be in the race.

No.

If Nathaniel was too good for the Leger then Sea Moon is.
Report penzance August 27, 2011 7:30 PM BST

Zilzal,I want to know if it's been done before.
Can't think of any.May have years ago though.
Report zilzal1 August 27, 2011 7:48 PM BST
I cant remember one either!!, not been done in modern times imo

Marienbard ran in the Melbourne Cup, but didn't win. Thats the closest I can get.
Report penzance August 27, 2011 7:51 PM BST
I thought of Marienbard when M Jarvis had him.

Yep i was right, Levmoss won a Leopardstown Handicap OVER 2 MILESLaugh
Report penzance August 27, 2011 7:53 PM BST
cheers.
Report bazzar August 27, 2011 9:31 PM BST
But LEVMOSS won the Ascot Gold cup the same year he won the Arc, what about SAUMAREZ won at Pontefract when trained by Henry Cecil, don't know about handicap though?
Star Appeal might have won a handicap in Germany before winning
the Eclipse and then the Arc in the same season, perhaps someone can confirm?
Report zilzal1 August 27, 2011 9:41 PM BST
Star appeal won the eclipse that year before being unplaced behind Grundy and Bustino at York, cant imagine him running in a handicap
Report elisjohn August 27, 2011 9:54 PM BST
what about carroll house early career,
Report zilzal1 August 27, 2011 10:01 PM BST
Nope checked him , Saumarez, and Tony Bin(although i didnt have all of his races_
Report sintonian August 27, 2011 10:02 PM BST
Can only see Sea Moon going to France if he takes in the St Leger first.

And im sure Stoute is still quite sweet on Workforce, he's not done much wrong.
Report bazzar August 27, 2011 10:42 PM BST
I just have this niggle that Star Appeal ran in a handicap in Germany before his Eclipse win, that's why he started at 33/1 for Eclipse, but I have binned all of my old form books since owning a computer, bad decision, really.
Report bazzar August 27, 2011 10:46 PM BST
I remember backing Sun Princess to win St Leger, but backing All Along to beat her in Arc, as I believed that the Leger would blunt her speed for the Arc.
But Levmoss blew that theory out of the water.
Report zilzal1 August 27, 2011 10:53 PM BST
You'd have to say levmoss was a bit of a one off, still i cant be having Leger winners at Longchamp even if there have been some close calls, Nijinsky and User Friendly to name two

I remember being at Longchamp when Ref Point was very short and he was beaten some way out(Eddery completing a three timer in the race on Trempolino after Rainbow and Dancing)
Report penzance August 27, 2011 11:02 PM BST
I backed Epervier Blue AP for the Arc,sure Saumerez was the one
who beat him.(91/2?)

Surely anyone watching this seasons races would conclude that its a 3yo's race to lose, yet older horse head the market....

Interesting zilzal

I am not at all impressed with the 3yo's.

Aside from the Derby winner (now retired) I don't see anything special at all in the 12 furlong gang of 3yos.

Aiden's bunch look moderate, with Seville and Recital etc all looking quite slow.

Meandre's formis open to debate although he is certainly open to improvement he looked very much a second string to Pour Moi.

Sea Moon's GV form may stand up and if it does he could be an Arc possible, but after the leger, a race that seems to take a lot out of horses. I do wonder if he might do what Alleged did, and lose the Leger to a filly and then win the Arc. However Sea Moon has around a stone to find to be considered in the same breath as Alleged.

Sarafina was maybe a bit unlucky last year ans she seems better then ever.

The only 3yo I like is Galikova.

Fabre won the ARC with 2nd strings if not 3rd string before in Rail Link,if Meandre wins Niel you couldnt oppose him
Report The Headmaster August 28, 2011 4:09 PM BST
Would love to know how Fabre rates King Of Arnor and what he thinks his trip is.  Was praying for him to get the Niel entry so first leg out the way.  No doubt the horse is a coming force.  Whether he's coming quickly enough to throw down an Arc bid can only be guessed at.
