WAFFLE On a very stiff mark now after chasing home Deacon Blues in Wokingham; so could find things tough. Apprentice claims 5lbs to help and has looked winner waiting to happen all season but others may be better treated.
TAJNEED Fantastic course record (Four wins; One second; Five starts) and must have a major chance of improving on that today after chasing home Hoof It at York two starts ago. High enough in weights but cannot leave out of equation.
OUR JONATHAN Struck gold at Chester in May and is now 7lbs higher than that winning mark. Should find things tough here as a result and potential he is drawn on the wrong side. Talented but conditions may be against him.
QUEST FOR SUCCESS Sits on career high mark now after couple of wins in Scotland this year so has little margin for error. Stewards' Cup too big of an ask last time and likely something else better treated once more.
ATLANTIC SPORT May just be coming to hand for Mick Channon now after some pleasing efforts in big handicaps. Way he stayed on last time suggests an extra furlong would help though and has some wily sprinters to get by here.
EVENS AND ODDS Would have been nice to see more from him so far this season but dropped to just 2lbs higher than when landing Stewards' Cup last term and very dangerous to rule out.
NORVILLE Been on the go most of the year and shot up the ratings after landing some decent prizes. Draw hasn't helped seemingly here though and mark at present turns the screw on him even more.
ADDICTIVE DREAM Blitzed field on only start at track back in June and hasn't had the rub of the green since really. Stayed on well under Hanagan last week at Ascot and lightly enough raced to still be improving. Easy to see a big run.
MAYSON Talented two year old with good course form to his name. Huge ask to take this on three-year-old debut and again, may be on wrong side, so others preferred.
PEPPER LANE Won in taking fashion last time here and overall track record pleasing. Up 7lbs for that though and way behind Addictive Dream earlier in season when on better terms; so plenty to prove today from less than ideal draw.
EDINBURGH KNIGHT Fancied to go well in Stewards' Cup last week but ended up on wrong part of track and on quicker than ideal ground. This should be more up his street and he's an improver, so plenty to like. Draw the worry.
TAX FREE Probably the most talented out of these lot at his best and tumbling mark helped last week when chasing home the excellent Hoof It. Choice of Adrian today and only 1lb higher suggests another big run in the offing.
CONFESSIONAL Up 3lbs for his very good second two weeks ago at Goodwood when looking a shade unlucky. Has some solid efforts to his name this term and no surprise to see a bold bid even off higher mark.
COLONEL MAK Contested some tough premier sprint handicaps this year so far and looked to be coming to hand at Hamiltion two starts back. Excuses last time in Stewards' Cup after injury in stalls; going likely to suit and another with claims.
STRIKING SPIRIT Hasn't won for two years now and normally likes the rattle of his hooves to be heard to be seen at his best. Back on a winnable mark but others look better treated for the test today.
FATHSTA Now on a mark below his last winning one in handicaps and can ignore Stewards' Cup run when well backed but short of room. Excellent form before that in big field handicaps and should appreciate this ground. Respected.
PARISIAN PYRAMID Only 2lbs higher now than when winning at Windsor last term and should be fresh for this after a break. Placed on both visits to the track and appears to be coming to hand nicely. Doubt he'll get his own way but solid credentials.
JOHANNES More than able off this mark and has a CD win to his name. Hanagan/Fahey team always respected but doubt whether has much improvement to give at his age, below best last time even if racing on wrong side.
ENDERBY SPIRIT Remains on mark way below his very highest and far from disgraced so far this term. Quite a big price for the ability he has and hasn't enjoyed the best of luck since winning first time out this season. Stable flying.
GALLAGHER Burst onto the scene as a two year old but on a huge downward spiral since then. Only had the one start for trainer renowned for getting horses back to their best but probably watching brief for now.
SUMMARY
As wide open a Great St Wilfrid as I can remember and tricky to rule many out completely. The far side usually have it in terms of the draw but there are some highly talented sprinters on the near side too this year so it may not be as clear-cut as it seems. Course specialist Tajneed looks sure to go well once more on the straight that has been so kind to him in the past and his current price may look huge after the race, but it’s hard to have a firm belief he will definitely win and as such value is sought elsewhere. Addictive Dream is just one of many that should be thereabouts and the overall picture is that these are a closely matched bunch. However the two will a small margin for value may come in the shape of COLONEL MAK and FATHSTA. Both ran no sort of race in the Stewards’ Cup when well fancied but both had valid excuses and can enjoy a better time of it here. The first mentioned banged his head in the stalls and lost some teeth at Goodwood but looked like he was back to form when second at Hamilton before that and can be given another chance on the attractive mark he now finds himself on. While the latter was denied a clear run two weeks ago but had shown very solid looking form before that. Both stable and jockey are in a rich vein of form and have a good overall track record. Special mention is reserved for Enderby Spirit as the Bryan Smart yard are unstoppable at present and the horse is better than his current mark. He is a big price.
trying a few quid eachway on Striking Spirit. It's the first time he tries 6f this season since thateye catching run at Royal Ascot, and all his career wins have been at the trip. Not worried about the ground if it softens up, Oasis Dreams tend to go on most surfaces and SS has been a close up 8th in the Stewards Cup on Soft behind Genki in the past off a slightly higher mark. 28/1.

Pepper Lane is such a good horse. Kept the faith despite the supposed draw bias as he loves to be near the front.A strong runner and very progressive type. Surprised that my other bet Tajneed, ran so badly - on the 'better' side.
