the international at York over 1 MILE 2 FURLONGS AND 85 YARDS?

They suggested that but then, on Timeform Radio, Grimethorpe apparently said no race til the QEII on October 15, then thats all til next season Cry

quote from RP

Cecil on Frankel: "Having discussed it with the Prince we've decided to give him a little rest and then just one more run this year...

..most probably in the QEII. There is then a possibility he'll stay in training next year, when there's a very good chance he'll get 1m2f"

Henry learned his trade well and will never over stretch a horse, you can't win everything.

How disappointing that he may only run once more in a race against horses he's already slaughtered.
Give the horse a chance to prove he's adaptable. He looks a horse strong enough to take in a lot
of races I don't think todays race will have taken too much out of him.
Very frustrating as we may not see the likes of him again for many years.

Sea the stars did win everything and Dancing Brave nearly did.
If he took in the Juddmonte , Arc and Breeders cup he could make claim to being the greatest of all time.

Think if they followed that path with him then it would be a sure thing he'd finish the same, being packed off to stud at the end of the season. There's always next year. It's still a gamble that he'll be as good as a 4yo but good luck to them for giving it a go.

Canford and Goldikova have 3 Mile Races they can go to without meeting  Frankel; Deauville,Moulin and Breeders Cup.

Even if they wanted CC to run at Ascot he could go for the 10 furlong race.

It is not inconceivable that the QEII could actually be a Walkover. Only the big prize for 2nd place is going to stop that . Though trainers do tend in that scenario to look for a Group 2/3 rather than take the easy money . Best case scenario is watching him beat Rio De La Plata and Zoffany again.

Very disappointing this.

Cant believe some of you are crowing about this tbh. He has raced 4 times this season already and we'll see him again in October. We then have the prospect of him having another 5 or 6 races as a 4 year old.

As for the QEII .. Strong Suit will be get a chance to meet him again after he choked in the Greenham.

Innit, TT. Sea The Stars raced 6 times as a 3yo and was never seen again. Frankel will run 5 times and we'll see him as a 4yo.

Cant argue with that,imo.

Good news imo, five top quality races in one season is enough,Sir Henry knows what he's doingCool

He did not look like he needs a break today. He is ready to run in anything that is coming up over the next 6 weeks as far as i can tell, Jaqcues Le Marois or International, Moulin or Irish Champion, then Ascot , and see how he is and maybe America after that.

It remains to be seen wether , after 1 race in 9 Months, he will be as good to go as he is now, next May.....

prospect of him having another 5 or 6 races as a 4 year old

That sounds great, but several very good 3YOs that stayed in training the year after did not , after the long break, come back the same .

Balanchine, Old Vic , Helissio.....

Hard to believe they will ever have the horse in better shape than right now, with 3 months of the season left, and he will be stood in his box. And they may as well leave him there all year rather than run once in October vs a field that will probably be weaker than The Greenham.

Can't see why they have to decide this today anyway.

The QEII is a long way off - can see Sir Henry wanting to get a run into Frankel befoe then in something like the Moulin.

well it did Canford no harm, Toby. After the Sussex last year he was put away.

Its possible he'll never be seen on the racecourse again. There is  a chance it will come up soft in the
QE2 as its in October and they'll decide not to run him. They have stated that there is only a "possibility"
of him running next year and the chances are that he won't and will be taken to stud.
He's a fast ground horse at his peak right now and the Owner looks to be protecting his stud value to me.
I'm sure if it was Cecil's decision he'd be seen out at least twice more this season as he's never been
one to wrap his horses in cotton wool and Frankel is no fragile horse.

I'll be very surprised if he stays in training next year - got to be long odds against imo.Sad

Point being is that even if he stays in training and they keep him to a mile the rest of his career could be in 3 and 4 runner races with a slow early pace.

For the sport and historys sake wouldnt people like to see him take on the yanks in a race with a end to end to end gallop with a full field over 10f to see what he could find when stretched??

Why should he be expected to perform on dirt though, zil?

Best thing is he settles so well now. Have no doubt he will stay 10f and reckon he would win over 12f on good ground even if not truly staying 12f because of his class.
I always thought he was the next Dancing Brave and could win at any distance from 6f to 12f. Just a shame he didn't run in the Derby, and I don't just say that because I backed him for the race AP at 33s.
Anyone else take the 14s with Coral he'd go unbeaten this season? Cool
