He went close 3 years ago (the year with Duke Of Marmalade & Henry the Navigator etc.), I'm not sure where he was at this point during that season. Think he got to about 21 but then pretty much drew a blank in the big races through the last couple of months.
I think pretty much everything would have to go in for him to get close, I personally doubt he'll get anymore than he did a few years ago which was an amazing feat in itself |

I agree - he flattened out near the end in 2008. But I think he has a stronger group of older horses this time round. At this stage in 2008 (i.e. week preceding Irish Oaks), he had 12 thanks largely to a brilliant Royal Ascot.
The key would be the 2yos. Get a couple of very good juvenile colts and juvenile fillies and the record looks an awful lot more achievable. |

I agree that the older horses are stronger or greater in number at any rate. Still think they all need to go in though, starting with Wonder of Wonders followed next week by SNA. And I personally don't think either of them will win (assuming Workforce runs).

the great trainers didnt have to send half the field to win them, just throws darts and hopes one lands

shame on you elis |

Well the four overseas Group Ones that he's won, he's only had the one runner in each.
If he targetted the record, I'd think he'd get it. I.e. Send Viscount Nelson and Jan Vermeer to winnable races out on the continent. |

There is talk of him sending some horses to Australia this year for the Cox plate and or Melbourne Cup etc.
Not sure which horses that would be though. |

I'd like to see him send something Down Under too. Maybe Cape Blanco who's already run in Dubai, France, the UK and the USA this season. Keep him there for the Mackinnon too. Also are Northern Hemisphere 3yos eligible to run in the Victoria Derby?
Melbourne Cup. His most successful raid in that race was with Mahler. Likes of Yeats and Septimus were too well handicapped and got jarred on the hard ground. I'd send something like Memphis Tennessee to the Melbourne Cup if I was to send anything. |

Unlike before when he went really close...he seems to have learnt how to manage his horses better ie spreading them out, not over racing them...could end up having plenty of fire power at the end of the season.

Cape Blanco has popped up on the bottom of the Melbourne Cup Ante Post.
"Also are Northern Hemisphere 3yos eligible to run in the Victoria Derby?" Not sure about that. |

I should aslo add i read something about "Fame and Glory" being a chance to come over here for the cup.

Northern hemisphere 3yo's can't run in the VRC Derby. Cape Blanco and something like Memphis Tennessee both sound ideal for those respective races.
