Hawkeyethenoo has to have a big chance but is difficult to back Ante post as he will probably run in the big 7f hand at Ascot the
saturday before. He's a C/D winner at Ascot and the race may have more value so I cann't see how he wouldn't run. If he wins
that he'll have to carry a penalty which given he's set to carry 9-7 will be too much. Deacon Blues is difficult to interpret as his
best form is at Ascot. Hoof it has a chance on his York form . Pastoral player was disappointing last time but may have not got
over his Ascot run, Goodwood's 6f on fast ground looks ideal . Again though he's difficult to back AP as connections might run
him in a conditions race. If hawkeye and past player line up without another run I'll be backing them.

By more value at Ascot, do you mean that the value to the winner will be more than the Stewards cup?
If so then you will be wrong as both races have £100,000 headline
therefore the prize money to the winner will be the same.

Point accepted both have a winners prize of approx £62,000.
I'd be surprised if he didn't run at Ascot and unless he win's there he'll probably run in both. Not
a good scenario for backing him AP for the second race.
Just noticed Pastoral Players trainer has stated he isn't keen on running at Goodwood because its down hill
, which is a bit odd as he seemed to love coming downhill at Newmarket when he won.

Edinburgh Knight for me too - good to firm wouldn't bother me, out of Selkirk.
Newmarket and Goodwood are totally different tracks.
Newmarket a wide galloping track, whereas Goodwood has many twists and turns.

I remember Lester got into lots of trouble at Goodwood, because many times he had a horse travelling really well but was shut on the rails, but that was on the round course, there was a stewards enquiry nearly EVERY racing day back then.
With the changed draw system , does anyone know if there is an advantage over one side or the other, please?

The largest sprint field Goodwood have had this season is 14 runners, on that occasion stall 6 won as the runners raced down the middle. A couple of times this season - such as on the 21st of May when perfect Pastime won - the near rail has looked faster, but on the whole the jocks will head for the middle of the track. Tom Segal said in a column earlier in the season that the Stewards cup is one of his favourite races and the fastest ground is up the middle. Evens and odds won the Stewards cup from a middle draw last season.
The jocks are a bizarre breed though. At the last meeting on the 17th June in the 7 runner maiden the rail looked faster and stall 5 beat stall 7 (high numbers against near rail), but in the latter 11 runner 6f handicap the jocks didn't want anything to do with the near rail and they raced down the middle. This was particularly strange as in the races run on the round course that day all the jocks were tacking across to the near rail!

When I remarked to a friend, that jockeys behave like sheep most times, he laughed like a drain, but just to illustrate, Brae Hill
won up the near rail at Newmarket, whilst the rest of the field ran nearest the far rail, lo and behold EVERY jockey ran up the near rail in the July Cup, almost blocking the winner in, where Haley
realised the danger in time and extricated him in.

Difficult to know where the fastest ground is. The best bet I can see is a place only bet on TIDDLEWINKS.
He's got the best piece of form in the race , will love the fast gallop, is consistant in these big handicaps,
will get a good lead up the stand side from Nasri , has c/d form, and is a very strongly build horse for
whom the weight will have little effect on this downhill track. I won't be win betting him as he stops very
quickly when hitting the front and will need to be delivered on the line to win.
The only negative is that he hasn't run for a while but if he's 100% he'll be difficult to keep out of the first 4.
