LUI REI
Looks more than able to take one of these at some point during the season and far from disgraced on wrong side in the Wokingham last weekend. Sounder surface likely to help but might have to settle for place at best once more.
ADDICTIVE DREAM
Very consistent since start of 3yo career; never out of first four. Drew clear of rivals on his side at Ripon latest in taking fashion (won by 2l overall) and looks sort to take 7lb hike in his stride. Stable in rich vein of form.
CROWN CHOICE
Another consistent sprinter from the Swinburn stable; again never out of the first four in last two years at every course bar Ascot. Up 3lbs from last success and entitled to progress being unexposed over 6f.
GLOBAL CITY
Went close in Meydan handicap back in February and back to a mark he can work with here in the UK. Hard to rule out based on easy win two years back off just 2lb lower and has grabbed the inside draw today. Interesting contender.
FATHSTA
Ran in some tough races so far this season and yet only 2lbs higher than last handicap win. Would probably appreciate the ground a little slower though and has some smart types to overcome.
MON CADEAUX
Highly tried at two and three. Collared late on by smart Our Jonathan at Chester two starts back and drop back to 6f likely to suit. Wouldn't appreciate too much rain but claims for flying stable if weather holds out.
EDGE CLOSER
Starts life with new yard on easiest mark he has had in some time and ran fifth in this contest last season off 7lbs lower. Doesn't usually get things right the first time out though and drawn wide here; others preferred.
ARTHUR’S EDGE
Looked smart since being dropped back to sprinting but last two efforts well over a year ago were more deflated. Would need to bounce back in grand style to take this against some race fit opponents; probably best watched for now.
LITTLE GARCON
Showed smart form as a 3yo (2nd to Bated Breath/beat Dungannon) so does come into this season on a high enough mark. Poor run on AW back in March needs to be put behind him and might just need this first run back on turf.
NORVILLE
Notched up five wins so far since the turn of the year, including one here at the start of May. Suspicion handicapper might have him now, though return to quicker surface will help. Wide draw a worry.
MEDICEAN MAN
Remains 5lbs above last win but has run three tremendous races this term so far behind talented horses. Back in the cheekpieces that saw him win last Summer and jockey one from one on him. Draw no help; big chance on form.
CHEVETON
Dropping back to an attractive mark and will be ready to strike when getting his conditions (5f; easy going). So a watching brief continues for now but fully entitled to pop up later in the season.
SOHRAAB
Took the drop down in grade in his stride when destroying rivals at Salisbury under Ryan Moore two weeks ago. Up 8lbs for that and while he has a decent draw and trainer is in good form, this type of race unlikely to suit as much (most wins over 5f).
CAPTAIN CAREY
An interesting runner. A first and second to his name from two visits to the track and placed over 5f behind Grp1 winner Prohibit and Noble Storm (110 rated) recently. Step up to 6f might be what's needed and has good draw.
R WOODY
Form most progressive last year and no reason why he can't progress further as a 4yo. All wins have come on an easier surface though and that coupled with his wide draw leaves him a bit to do today.
VITZNAU
A number of lacklustre efforts have seen his mark drop from a high point of 104 down to 91 and needs to show more to prove sparkle still there. Wins have come on softer ground than will get here and others look better treated at present.
SUMMARY
As always, lots of information to absorb and digest to find the winner of another cracking sprint handicap. It could very well turn into the Walter Swinburn benefit race as he has leading claims with both Crown Choice and ADDICTIVE DREAM. Both are ultra consistent sorts and deserve every respect, but it’s the latter of the two that gets the vote. The way he surged clear at Ripon on his latest start gave the impression he has more to offer and he is lightly enough raced to make that the case. He could prove to be a Steward’s Cup horse. Of those who aren’t trained by Swinburn, the pairing of Mon Cadeaux and Medicean Man have sound form claims but might just be hindered by the draw. So at a similar price to those two, but with a better starting gate, it’s Captain Carey who appeals each way. He is another who has shown tremendous consistency this season but hasn’t had the best of luck so far. Stepping up an extra furlong might just be the making of him and he has solid course form to his name.

Great write up.
When I drove nearby this evening ( 10 miles away ) it was pouring with rain. If it has got that rain, ground will certainly have eased. Risky I know not knowing if ground HAS but have gone with R Woody e/w beacuse as you say he will appreciate the softer going, and then the high draw is an advantage |

Both selections didn't enjoy very good passages through the race and paid the price as a result; Captain Carey was well backed though.
