castlemore king and maharba maiyem.

Why are they allowed to run, clogging the field and a possible hazard to genuine contenders.

Surely there should be a mechanism to prevent these sort of runners in top races.

rated 52 and 78 respectively,it's like me being allowed to run in the olympic 1100 metres against usain bolt.

As far as i know in the championship races at chelt there is a ratings capping preventing this ludicrous scenario.

How are they a hazard?

It's different at jumps meetings for obvious reasons
Report ribotman • June 2, 2011 1:24 PM BST
Well imo one of them could set off like a scalded cat and when inevitably weakening balk horses behind them as they drop back, and on a course like epsom that is a distinct possibility.

In other sports you need to have the relevent 'qualifications' to take part, which these two rags do not.[or should not].

exactly ribotman, as Lester said in his autobiography:

"You need a horse that can lay up handy, a few places behind the leaders: getting too far back at Epsom can be disastrous, as there is no part of the course where you can readily make up ground forfeited early on. You have to get up into a reasonable place and keep out of trouble as beaten horses fall back on the downhill run".

Completley agree. Surprised at David Simcock for doing this.

What and the BHA loses out on entry fees from dozens of hopeful owners? They aren't going to limit the horses just in case some jockey dropping out the back gets blocked off by a no hoper.

Pour Moi, the most likely to be caught out btw.

It's worse that Ballydoyle flood the big races with multiple entries.
Report cruise d • June 2, 2011 8:27 PM BST
Why is that worse? They pretty much all well bred animals that deserve their chance.

Is it not beyond the realms of possibility that Castlemorris King might actually have the 70lb improvement in him needed to win this race, and connections have deliberately held him back to get a good price?

I must do the forecast.
Castlemorris King
Marhaba Malyoon.

The OP got both names wrong.  A future awaits in commentating. Happy

Laughi must admit i was too lazy to check the names.

Just look at today - 4 runners in the Oaks only one placed. Ballydoyle just floods these races to try to reduce the chances of the other runners.

Which of the Chester Vase winner, Dante 2nd or the Derrinstown winner and second don't deserve to run in your opinion?

You can forget Memphis Tennessee and Treasure Beach.

Looks like a case of:-

"Do pop along to Epsom old bean I have a runner in the Derby you know" Or" You are a valued client we wuould like to invite you to Epsom to watch our horse run in the Derby"

The fact they paid their money entitles them to run them but only because Epsom moneygrabbers care not a jot if a 4 eared donkey with Blackpool beach tattoed on it's backside is entered.

One day one of these monkees will swerve in front of a certain winner belonging to someone like HRH and cost him the race.

On that day all hell will break lose and then they will change the entry criteria and expect a clap on the back for it.

These two wouldn't win a decent handicap on the all weather and have absolutely no right to be at Epsom.

Laugh

Ballydoyle really ought to know what their best horses are though.

Posted on the Seville or Recital thread that Treasure Beach was best of O'BriensCry

But what happened when the rag dropped back at the top of the straight will surely mean the authorities stop these pointless outsiders being allowed to run and ruin these big races.

Two rags in the Derby?  I backed Seville (10th) and Ocean War (11th).
They were beaten but since when do jockeys stop riding the last two furlongs?
Report Try My Best • June 5, 2011 6:02 PM BST
Since the race began in 1780 there have been
3 winners at 100/1
1winner at 66/1
6 winners at 50/1
1 winner at 45/1
5 winners at 40/1

Also plenty of 25 and 20/1 shots that have won the race as well as horses like Terimon that ran second to Nashwan at 500/1.It's unbelievable that people would try to dissuade these so called rags from running in the race when so called big stables and owners critisise prize money levels and then don't enter their horses when there are good prizes on offer up and down the country.Spoilt rich men springs to mind.
