Can anyone who has been to Royal Ascot in the Grandstand area since 2007 (i.e. after they attempted to remedy the poor viewing from the new grandstand) give their opinion on viewing quality? I normally avoid such occasions but might go on Tuesday this year if there is potential to actually see the horses racing. Thanks in advance.
If you are interested in seeing the horses in the paddock pre race your best view of the race will be on one of the many flat screen televisions to the rear of the Grandstand concourse as it will then be too packed to fight your way through to the front of the stand. Viewing still pretty poor. The best thing to do with that rancid stand is to destroy it and start again. Utterly horrendous. It was actually designed with more viewing behind the stand around the paddock than at the front. I understand that the architect was given a brief for the new stand which included a number of key points .......unfortunately ability to view the racing was not one of them ! They should have built a stand with substantial rooftop viewing for folk who are actually interested in watching the racing instead of constructing what is essentially an Airport terminal building. Which clown at the BHA thought that Ascot was a suitable venue for 'Champions Day' ??

f**k me it was over 20degrees but I was completely FREEZING in the grandstand watching the race. Lovely grandstand from the outside but who the hell designed it so the wind effect turns it to near artic conditions :( very poor.
