By running Neptune Collonges it means that a lot of horses are going to run well out of the handicap.

Neptune Collonges clearly has no chance of winnign and surely the old lad deserves a well earned rest after an in and out season. He is probably running him to give The Minnack a decent weight, however I can't see the novice being good enough to win.

Even last years winner is on 9st3 -unbelievable!!

nicholls is entitled to do what he wants, most would call it shrewd. i dont think youre right in saying neptune collonges has no chance and horses often win from out of the handicap in the scottish national anyhow

I would fancy No Panic if he was anywhere near the real handicap but Nicholls has surely runied his chance  Cry

A similar scenario didn't stop a horse from honking up 20lbs+ from out of the handicap a few years back

Odds suggest he's far from a certain runner. I don't think it ruins the race though, I'm all for seeing top class horses in handicaps. I just don't understand why they would skip Aintree, stating he had too much weight, then go for this off an 8lb higher mark. I'd have had to fancy him to give 10lb to Ballabrigs.

Nicholls did this a few years ago at Cheltenham,
Vincent o'brien handicap, left top weight in and withdrew him morning of the race, his other lower handicapped horse beat Harchibald.

Always Right has a decent chance as he dos seem to be both bery useful and alsom improving - in idea sort for this race. Shame he's out of the handicap though.

The favourite does seem to have a very decent chance and is not at bad odds.

I'm not sure the bookies have the betting right on this race. because of the top weight, there are far fewer in the race with a  chance than usual yet its still 11/2 the field. I don't think anything out of the first 5 in the betting  or maybe six with merigo has much chance.

Could be wrong though.

You are spot on bazzar, Rigmorale ran in the Champion Hurdle and then he left it in the VOB so Sporozene could win as one of the few runners from within the handicap.

I think the fav is a huge price with the state of the handicap as you say cryoft. If the field were all in the handicap then I can't see that it'd be much bigger.
