After years of watching the national in the main enclosures, for the last few years i have watched the big race from the steeplechase enclosure and have deemed it terrific value for money. You can get a pint no problem, put a bet on no problem, room to move around, live entertainment and several big screens that make viewing enjoyable and easy. Yes, you are a little away from the action but i regard it as a comparitively small sacrifice.
It is exactly the opposite of tatts. Getting a beer, putting a bet on, moving around, has at times been a nightmare. I am a MASSIVE fan of aintree but national day (same as gold cup day at cheltenham), can be quite a headache. IMO, Aintree have done really well transforming an overgrown bank into a decent viewing facility offering great value for money.
We, and I include myself in this comment, often have plenty of moans about what racecourses do wrong, but this time it's a rare pat on the back. Well done.
