Please take a minute to read this and DON’T open an account with these thieves.

I opened an account with bwin.com on January 3rd 2011 and staked £100, plus my free introductory £10 on Louis Oosthuizen to win the Africa Open at odds of 11/1.

Oosthuizen won, and after sending in a photo of my passport, I was eventually paid out my winnings. Then I placed £150 on Martin Kaymer at odds of 10/1.

At no point in time did I receive any communication from bwin.com to tell me there was a problem with my account OR with the bet but when I attempted to log in to my account on Sunday morning my account was disabled.

After numerous, stressful and lengthy calls to the customer services number I was told my account was closed and that my bet on Kaymer had been cancelled. After speaking with four different representatives I was told that the bet was cancelled on either Friday the 21st or Sunday 23rd. The golf started on Thursday 20th!

I know accounts get closed but I have never known any firm attempt to avoid paying out on a winning bet before!

I researched bwin.com before opening the account and concluded that as they appear on Oddschecker.com, sponsor AC Milan and Real Madrid, claim to have 20 million users and to be the world’s biggest online gaming site, I shouldn’t have any problems.

I eventually gave up with the helpdesk when one of the representatives informed me I was paying for the calls.

The rep also told me that this was far from an isolated incident and that winning bets have been cancelled before. I was going pretty mental but she thanked me for being so calm!

I did get paid, eventually, but that was only once I pointed out who I was and that I wrote about golf for Betfair.

I’ve been waiting to see if they’d give me any compensation for the calls cost but they’ve finally come back to me to say they won’t.

My advice - DO NOT USE THESE CROOKS.
