None is pronounced "NUN" as in residents of a convent

Non is pronounced like the french "Non" which means "No", the opposite of yes

Ive never heard of any "NUN RUNNERS" At Kempton beforePlain

Convent Girl and Mother Superior, two I can think of from way back. That was before Sunday racing, of course. Can recall Mother Superior running a few times at Kempton, though that one had too many bad habits to be backed.

3m around Sandown wont bring out the best in Sizing Europe. i would give him a prep in Ireland before bringing him over for the GC in March. He should be a lot more competitive against Kauto in the GC although i doubt he will be able to beat Imperial Commander around Cheltenham. Worth a try nevertheless.

That is not good and usually a sign of a non runner about to be publicly addressed with insiders hoovering up any money firstCry! One horse almost certain to be missing is last year's Irish Independent Arkle winner, Sizing Europe, as trainer Henry de Bromhead is extremely unlikely to make the trip from Waterford again.

"I think we're going to give it a miss," said De Bromhead. "It's too much travelling in too short a time. Though the horse is in great form, we had a horrendous trip back from Kempton and it's in the back of my mind that he got travel sickness on the way over to Cheltenham in 2009."

Report Geos January 11, 2011 3:53 PM GMT
Sizing Europe might not take his place in the rearranged William Hill King George VI Chase at Kempton on Saturday.

Although trainer Henry de Bromhead has yet to fully make up his mind, he is leaning against sending his 2010 Arkle Trophy winner over to England for the second time in three weeks after making a wasted journey for the abandoned Christmas meeting.

"I'm not sure yet, I've not fully decided. I'd say we'd be leaning towards not going," he said.

"It would be for various reasons. We were already over there for Christmas. I don't know if we want to be doing that twice in such a short space of time. It was a real shame it was off then.

"We have a few options we are looking at but nothing definite at the moment. He's been entered for all the big races at Cheltenham and we will just see."

Sizing Europe put up a pleasing effort over three miles when second to Kauto Star in the JNwine.com Champion Chase at Down Royal in November, and his conqueror is seeking a record fifth successive victory in Kempton's feature.

Just went into my local hills to ask on a query i heard on another forum about them refunding bets on this race if requested by the customer about 2 weeks ago and here is what i was told by willy hills, first the manager in shop and then by customer service rep on phone:

Me to shop manager where my bet was placed: "I hear that apparently 2 weeks ago you were refunding KG bets at the request of the customer as a gesture of goodwill?"

Manager replies: "I do not really know anything about this, let me give them a ring and see what i can do for you."

ring ring, ring ring

Customer service rep: "Yes that is correct, we were, what is the name of the horse that the customer is asking about please?"

Manager: "Sizing Europe"

Customer Service rep: "Well in that case then that horse cannot now be treated as a non runner and all bets on that horse stand because there lies some doubt about that horses participation in the race."

Manager says to me: "All bets stand, i am sorry, i know you came in 2 weeks ago and said and i was wrong but its too late now and you should have phoned them up then. All bets stand it will be treated as such, i am sorry again!"

WHAT A FECKING JOKE, I TAKE BACK WHAT I SAID ON ANOTHER THREAD ABOUT IT BEING FAIR THAT ALL BETS STAND ON THIS RACE ANTEPOST RULES ETC, AS IT IS CLEAR THAT THESE BOOKIES ARE TAKING YOU FOR A RIDE!

Hi *******,

Thank you for taking the time to write us.

Please be informed that it looks like it will be staged on the 15th of January. However, bets will still stand as the race will still be at Kempton.

We trust this answers your query. If we could be of further assistance, please do not hesitate to email us again or contact us via our Live Chat facility.

Kind regards,

They can't have taken that much money on a 16/1 shot., in fact it wouldn't have a rule 4 if the horse was taken out on the day of the race. Poor stuff indeed if a bookmaker doesn't refund.
Report R Carver January 11, 2011 6:29 PM GMT
The original market should have been closed IMO, all bets refunded (certainly on those that were declared overnight at least). As I said elsewhere, 3 weeks delay is too long - what would have happened if (heaven forbid), Kauto Star had been Sizing Europe, and was pulled out? 3 weeks is too long and a n/r runner from the original overnight declarations was always likely.
