From RP: CONNECTIONS of Long Run are already dreaming of John Smith's Grand National glory - in 2013 - after the four-year-old made an impressive start to his chasing career at Auteuil yesterday, writes Desmond Stoneham. Long Run, ridden by David Cottin, sauntered home in the Listed Prix James Hennessy for Guillaume Macaire, but could be destined to move on to Nicky Henderson in Lambourn. "That was a very fine performance for his first run over fences," said owner Robert Waley-Cohen. " The jockey gave him time to have a look at the jumps and also picked the best ground during the race." He added: " Long Run will be back at Auteuil on May 24 for the Group 1 Prix Ferdinand Dufaure. He'll remain in France until early November and then go to Nicky Henderson - if he's nice to me! " It's a long time before Cheltenham [ next year], and we're already thinking about the Grand National in 2013." |

ive had a sneaky small bet on him for the world hurdle next year as if he gets beat in the king george, making mistakes, whats to stop them thinking of having a go at Big Bucks?? both LR and BB have exactly the same profile- Graded winning novices who were error-prone and both got turned over in Big handicaps first time up the next season...... |

would it be fair to say that since that article was written his jumping has become a bit more of an issue? wouldn't fancy the prospect of seeing him hurdle the chair

Dont think its old enough to run this time is it ? Ive backed it for champion chase even though it probably doesnt like cheltenham and as 2 more likely options there. That said, it reminds me of one man a lot with its cruising speed and perhaps letting it race from the front, maybe blinkered if need be may make a mockery of its 65-1 ante post odds. Sam walley cohen looks to be battling with it it too much when trying to pull it back to stay further.Was very eyecatching in bursts in rsa last season. Does this sound daft anyone ?

I had the same idea backing him for the Champ Chase, it isn't a bad idea. But Zeb, Master Minded and Captain Cee Bee would be too much for him anyway. So I decided against it.
